Hi:

My surgery lasted 4 1/2 hours and I was in the hospital for 2 nights. Though

I did have a bone graft from hip and placed on my upper jaw. Like you I did

have an underbite. On May 19th, I will be 10 weeks post-op and the OS just

gave me the go-ahead to start chewing normal food. Good Luck.

Hi, I was just wondering how long most people are in both surgery and

hospital for, especially for sugery for an underbite, which wil

probally involve both the upper and lower jaws.

Thanks

Hi, My son had surgery in March for an underbite. Had both lower

and upper jaws moved, plus chin, and all 4 wisdom teeth. The surgery

lasted about 3 hours, and he spent one night in the hospital. I

never thought he would be able to go home the next day, even that

morning, but he made a quick recovery enough to go home. Our os said

most people stay one night and are ok to go home. The whole thing

was amazing to me. Especially, seeing the underbite that morning,

then after surgery it was fixed and looked great! It was worth it :)

i had upper and lower jaw surgery two months ago. i remember they

wheeled me into surgery around 8 a.m. and i was back in my hospital

room by 10:30 a.m. i went home the next morning around 11:00 a.m.

it was not bad being the hospital. i thought i would hate it, but

they made me very comfortable and it was good to have nurses checking

on me regularly. i actually kinda missed it when i got home.

anyway, take care...

-Hi. I had upper/lower 3/11 for an underbite (each moved 3mm). I had

afternoon surgery and was released around 1 p.m. the next day.

Pretty much the deal was that I could go home as soon as I could (1)

pee, (2) drink, (3) take my meds, pretty much in that order. Going

home was a good motivator and the drugs didn't hurt!

I had surgery on 5/4. I had my upper jaw moved up and split and my

lower jaw moved forward. I arrived at the hospital at 5:30AM for

7:30AM surgery. My surgery was about 5 hrs long. I spent the first

night in the ICU and then the second night in the regular rooms. I

went home on 5/6 in the afternoon. I don't think everyone's surgery

is this long...just depends on what you're having done. The ICU was

necessary because it was hard to breathe afterward (they had to do

something with my nasal bones to make room for everything else). It

was actually the best thing because there was a nurse available the

instant you rang or needed something. They are with you almost all

the time versus the regular rooms where they just check in on you

periodically.
