Guest guest
Hey, Everyone! I can't tell you how grateful I am for this group! I had a LeFort I and BSSO on May 3rd. All has gone very well, though I did " hit the wall " somewhere around post-op day 5. Anyway, my question is for those of you who had a LeFort I, how long did it take for sensation to return to your maxilla? Thanks in advance for your replies! Guest guest
Hey , I had the exact same procedures as you on the exact same day When you ask how long for the sensations to return to the maxilla, do you mean the roof of your mouth or the areas on the outside of your face near your temples, the top of your cheeks, etc.? I really have most of my sensations back, can completely feel the roof of my mouth, lips, sides of my face. The numbest places are my nose and the tops of my cheeks right beside my nose, which of course is from the Lefort. We just passed our 2-week mark, great isn't it? I wish ya well in the rest of your recovery! Kirstin > Hey, Everyone! > > I can't tell you how grateful I am for this group! > > I had a LeFort I and BSSO on May 3rd. Guest guest
I had a LeFort I on April 26, 2004 and still have swelling and no sensation around the maxilla. The swelling is bad in the morning. Not sure why, maybe because I do not sleep on my back, but I do sleep elavated. Any suggestions??? > > Hey, Everyone! > > > > I can't tell you how grateful I am for this group! > > > > I had a LeFort I and BSSO on May 3rd. Guest guest
I'm at 8 weeks and still can't feel anything around my upper teeth. I can feel the center of the roof of my mouth, however. Guest guest
Kris, I am at 4 weeks after a Le Fort I. I still have numbness on my upper lip and cheeks........and also my upper teeth. The swelling flares up in the morning and goes down during the day. Maybe it is because I am not sleeping on my back....but I am elavated. Any thoughts. Guest guest
I am 10 months post-SARPE, and I am still stiff and numb on the left side of my face. > > > Hey, Everyone! > > > > > > I can't tell you how grateful I am for this group! > > > > > > I had a LeFort I and BSSO on May 3rd. Guest guest
I don't know if I can help more than anyone else. I only mentioned my numbness because asked. However, I do have a theory. From reading posts for a while, it seems that everyone is more stiff or swollen in the mornings, although most people say it's from not being elevated. People (including my doc) say that light exercise gets your blood flowing and decreases swelling. I think that when you sleep, no matter what position you're in, your heartbeat slows down, your blood doesn't move as quickly, and it can't do whatever it does to decrease swelling. Carry away the bad things from the swollen area, or carry fresh oxygen to it, or whatever. So even sitting up, since you sleep sitting (relatively) still, your decreased blood flow causes more stiffness/swelling. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it. Guest guest
Yeah, I'll buy that. > > > > Hey, Everyone! > > > > > > > > I can't tell you how grateful I am for this group! > > > > > > > > I had a LeFort I and BSSO on May 3rd. Guest guest
Another thought - if my theory is right, then an additional theory might be that if you woke up every hour or two and walked around the house, you wouldn't swell. Try it and let us all know if it works. Just kidding. Kris > I don't know if I can help more than anyone else. I only mentioned > my numbness because asked. Guest guest
Maybe this is a stupid question, but I'd really like to know exactly what this means, does this mean that when you smile, the left side of your face does not move at all and that people can actually see that it's not moving, and also what happens when you eat or drink something, does your face move with you? I'm also getting a SARPE and while we are all going for the orthodontic improvements, the cosmetic ones do play a part in this as well (at least for me).
