Guest guest
How long after surgery did it take before you felt comfortable sleeping on your side or stomach? At what point is it safe to do so? I know Im supposed to sleep on my back with my head elevated, but its getting very uncomfortable to be stuck sleeping that way - my lower back needs a change. Yet whenever my cheek touches the pillow I wake up instantly, not becasue it hurts (still feels weird and swollen but that sort of goes without saying), but because Im afraid I'll push my jaw out of alignment or something. When do I get to simply sleep without worrying if Im damaging all that surgical work I just had done?
Guest guest
Yesterday was the 4th week since surgery, and I absolutely know how you feel. First off, I would suggest that you use some sort of sleeping medicine to help you, because as a life-long stomach sleeper, it was very difficult getting used to sleeping on my back. Eventually, I started to get used to it, and after about 2-2.5 weeks, I felt more comfortable when I slept. I would still try to sleep on my back, but felt ok with laying my cheeks on the pillow. I would suggest trying to softly lay the top part of your face. I'm no doctor, but you've got plates or something in there holding everything together, so I don't think that a pillow filled with feathers will throw everything out of wack. I know it's tough, but it does get easier. Best of luck. - > How long after surgery did it take before you felt comfortable > sleeping on your side or stomach? Guest guest
I was about three weeks when I went from a lazy boy to a wedge to just a pillow. I slept on my side in all three of the above, with a small travel pillow propping my face in the right position. I didn't like sleeping on my stomach until my splint came out (week 6) because of the massive drool. Guest guest
thanks for the reassurance lexicology I am just starting to sleep on my side now and its been three weeks since surgery. And I discovered something. I drool much less now than i did before surgery because its so much easier to close my mouth! Bonus! No more yucky wet pillows. > I was about three weeks when I went from a lazy boy to a wedge to > just a pillow.
