Guest guest
I had the roof of the mouth split in order to widen it. Sometimes they use bone from your hip but my surgeon didn't and said the split wasn't that wide and it would heal over. I had a plastic splint attached to my braces after the surgery so you can't feel whats happened to the roof of the mouth. They removed the splint after 6 weeks and I gota strong wire placed round the front of my teeth by the Orthodontist, the reason for this is that though the split has healed over it is still soft tissue and needs more time to heal and things would collapse apparently if the wire was not fitted. Feeling the roof of my mouth now I cannot feel any split at all and would not have a clue where they did the incision so they must have done a good job! > Has anyone has this? How do they do it? Guest guest
Did you also have upper surgery? I had upper, lower and they split the roof of my mouth, but I'm pretty sure they did it from above while doing the LeFort I, so there was no incision on the roof of my mouth. I've had another surgery on my palate and they used stitches for that, so I don't know why they wouldn't for this if there was an incision there. I had a removable splint from the beginning, and there was never any incision that I could feel or see. If you didn't have upper surgery, they may have done it differently though. Guest guest
I'm pretty sure that they always go from the top like a modified Le-Fort. For mine, I had my braces 3 weeks pre-op and a Haas type appliance (the expander) put in 1 week pre-op. Apparantly I need to have this appliance in for 6 months untill new bone fills in the gap where the original sutre had formed. Although I'd much rather a wire like scottieuk had because its really hard to talk with this thing and food always gets stuck in it. Anyways, at almost 3weeks post op, the only thing I can feel is some stiches left under my top lip. Other than that its just hard to chew anything hard cause it hurts to put any pressure on my top teeth. Oh and a bunch of numbness all around my top gums. > > > Has anyone has this?
