Guest guest
Hey everyone, I can't remember when my doc said it would be okay to blow my nose. I swear he said 10 weeks, but I'm thinking that he meant to say 10 days. Thanks.
Guest guest
I was told not to blow my nose for a couple of weeks after surgery (by the hospital), but when I mentioned it to my surgeon after a few weeks, he said it was ok to blow, but to do it gently (like a wee puff of air), and with the mouth open. I tried it, but it was not effective at clearing anything out. It also felt really strange (if you've had upper surgery - I had upper/lower/genio - you might have had the same feeling, things are feel quite different around there, hard to explain, could be the numbness, but it didn't feel exactly stable). I found the most effective strategy for me was to use q-tips and 25 hydrogen peroxide solution, to carefully, gently clean my nose out. I did that for about 6 weeks or so, going through over 600 q-tips in the process... Hope that helps, > Hey everyone, > > I can't remember when my doc said it would be okay to blow my nose. Guest guest
Whooops - typos, that should read 2% hydrogen peroxide solution! you can find it at any drugstore. > I found the most effective strategy for me was to use q-tips and 25 > hydrogen peroxide solution, to carefully, gently clean my nose out. Guest guest
i called my doctor two days, yes TWO DAYS, after my surgery b/c the congestion was driving me crazy and he said i could blow gently. he said that the reason its not good to blow your nose too hard is because since your sinus cavities were opened during the surgery, you can blow air into them and it puffs your cheeks out for a second. he said its not dangerous, just scary when it happens. anyway, when he gave me the okay i spent about 10 minutes slowly, gently blowing my nose and it was the best feeling ever. i thought my brains were going to blow out there was so much gunk. lol! but if you're still uncertain, call your surgeon! i made several calls to him after my surgery and his answering service even paged him for me a few times. he was happy to answer any questions (i was afraid of getting on his nerves). but if your doc's a good one, he shouldn't mind you calling even for the slightest question. > Hey everyone, > > I can't remember when my doc said it would be okay to blow my nose. Guest guest
Hi there, My surgeon told me not to blow my nose at all because if you do a clot might come out and a severe nose bleed may occur. It eventually cleared up on it's own. It can be annoying for a while but it all goes away in time. I also used q-tips and hydrogen peroxide to clean my nostrils a little bit. I was probably blowing my nose about a month ago or more and I had upper jaw surgery on March 15th. 10 weeks is a little extreme I would think.... 10 days might be right. > Hey everyone, > > I can't remember when my doc said it would be okay to blow my nose.
