Guest guest
I had braces for 16 months before surgery, lower advancement only. It depends on what you need to have done. I don't think taking the slower approach is done so much because of comfort issues as it is to prevent root resorption. Which is important. As my ortho put it, " Teeth actually move better when you're kinder to them, " and that's particularly true for adults. Guest guest
I was told initially that I need 16-20 months of braces to get my teeth ready for surgery. They had to open two " tooth-sized " spaces on either side of my middle 4 teeth on the bottom to put implants where I had teeth pulled when I was a kid (they pulled them to make more room on my then-tiny lower jaw). I think opening the spaces was the reason for the long round of braces. As it turned out, everything was in place by 9 months after I got the braces on, and I had the surgery 10 months after I started braces (had to wait a month for a surgery date). I think some people's teeth move faster than others. My surgeon still marvels at how quickly mine moved. > Hello all, > > I was wondering how long you guys had braces before your surgery. Guest guest
I got my braces on in November, and I am scheduled for both upper and lower jaw surgery this July. Initially my ortho thought it would be at least 18 months, but my teeth have moved very quickly. He said that best thing I did for myself was cut down to only two Vioxx a week. I used to take one every day for the pain, but I heard that the less anti-inflammatory medication you take, the faster your teeth move. So, listen to the ortho, he knows what he's talking about!! And good luck!
Guest guest
I had my braces put on in early April 2002 and just have surgery in May 2004. My teeth moved really slowly...I am sure I'll be in the braces for quite awhile even now that the surgery has been done. (I also wore braces for 5 years as a teenager). > Hello all, > > I was wondering how long you guys had braces before your surgery.
