My ortho was forcing a relapse.....

Well, after the " going crazy " message, I thought I should give you

an update on what the OS said. He says that his work is right on

and that the ortho is wrong to try to move my jaw back. He tried to

get in touch with his office, but the ortho is out today.

He told me not to wear the elastics and he will contact the ortho on

Monday.

I can't believe how much pain I woke up in. Those elastics were

just so much. It was the worse pain since the surgery! My OS said

that he recommends seeing the ortho as soon as possible, but it was

just too much too soon. He suggests that I look into filing that

one tooth down or moving just it out of the way- not the whole jaw.

Which makes since to me too!

SO, instead of an accidental relapse, it appears my ortho was

forcing one! How odd. I can't believe that. In just one day I

moved a half of a tooth's width. With that much pressure, my OS

said my jaw would have been under my ear by the time I went back to

the ortho!

Thanks again for listen. Has anyone else had any problems with

assymetry? I have tried to search the archives, but didn't find

anything.

that is awful!!! i feel so bad that you have to deal with that.

since my wires got clipped three weeks ago, i've been scrutinizing my

jaws and sometimes i feel like my lower jaw is crooked where it

wasn't before. but my ortho looked at it the other day and he said

he didn't see it. my teeth (or my jaws, not sure) move some

throughout the day. my ortho has me in elastics at night. the

elastics are to keep me from holding my jaw in a funky manner and not

neccessarily there to move my teeth in any direction. so when i wake

up, i usually feel pretty lined up. i'll go back to the ortho in

about three weeks and i think he'll tell me if i'm ready to get my

braces off.

so all that to say, i've seen some movement in my jaws that's been a

little disconcerting, but it seems like its easy to fix as long as i

catch it early enough. i've been worried about asymmetry but both my

OS and ortho seem very pleased so i'm thinking its just my

imagination. unless they are in a conspiracy together to get me in

for another surgery! (but i don't think that's the case).

your OS and ortho are experts and have, hopefully, been doing this a

long time. no one is perfect though and mistakes can happen. the

good thing is you have perspectives from both doctors, its like

having a built in second opinion b/c they are both concerned about

your final outcome. but also trust your instincts... if you feel

something is off and you aren't due back at the ortho for another

month, then by all means, call him!
