Guest guest
Hey everyone, I'm a 19 yr old college student (gonna be a soph. in the fall). I started the process 10th grade, thats when I first got my braces. But before getting my braces, they had to remove 8 of my teeth. Ew..painful for the first day. At first they were just going to move my lower jaw back, but my last visit to my surgeon, he said that my upper jaw will have to be moved up a bit. I don't mind, I just want my bite to improve. Usually when I bite into something, I have to use my back teeth. It gets annoying...hehe. My dads old insurance,HMO had declined the surgery, this was in December. I had almost given up. In January my dads job got Aetna, they approved it! :-) Has anyone gotten both procedures done? Is it very painful? I also have heard about weight loss after the surgery and in the the video tha my surgeon showed me, they touched a little on that. Do you lose a lot of weight post-op? I think my surgeon has only mentioned wiring my jaw shut. Is it better to wire shut or to use pins? I can say that I would feel better with my jaw wired shut, so that there's no chance of mobility. I'm afraid that I might make a sudden movement and hurt myself. Any advice and comments are greatly appreciated! :-D Thanks! Jo
