lower jaw expansion - anyone had it?

I have noticed that many people have upper palate expansion, I'm

guessing because many people's upper jaws are smaller than lower

(according to my ortho). I have it the other way around - upper

bigger than lower. I'm also starting to get a bit of a crossbite

from my braces. Is the crossbite something that will eventually be

eliminated during the course of my treatment or will it require some

sort of surgery (I hope not!)? I will ask my ortho at my next

appointment, but want to see what people's experiences have been

with this.

Irene.

It does not seem to be possible to expand the lower easily

surgically - anatomically it is different from upper - if you expand

it, you have to expand the joints - how do you do it?, inferior nerve,

lingval nerve issues and so on. Instead upper is adjusted to the

lower as it can be segmented in many pieces which allows to many -

dimensional changes.
