Expanders late into treatment

Hi,

I've been posting on the Ortho2 board... I just found this board and

would welcome any comment on my latest challenge...

I've been in braces for 1 year. After having lower jaw advancement 3

weeks ago, I've got 6 months of braces left.

However, today I thought that my upper arch should be wider and my

ortho agreed, but said that i would need surgery on both my upper and

lower palettes to expand the 3mm on each side....

Can't expanders be used? Shouldn't expanders been used early in the

treatment or did the ortho think he could expand the palette using

braces only?

Like many of you, i've not only spent $$$ on this, but also my time..

i want my teeth to be perfect.. I'm thinking of asking my surgeon

about this next week and see what he suggests...

im wondering if my ortho doesnt want to put me in expanders because

it erases most of the teeth aligning he's doen with the braces over

the last year..

maybe i'm being too fussy...

any comments???
