Guest guest
Hi all, A bizarre thing happened to me today that I wanted to share with you. I looked at the calander and realized that I was several years post- op on May 1st. The thing is ........how many years? I really can't remember......3-4.....it's so far in the past I really can't remember clearly. I tell this as a boost to those who are in the thick of this very overwhelming procedure. I remember that for years it colored my entire life......particularly during the year that surrounded the actual surgery. All I could think of for months on each side of surgery was my mouth and what it was going though.....it literlly was a foil that I saw the rest of my life through. Now......how ever long after the fact.......it is a distant pleasant memory. I endured a trial that was extreme....I gleened benefits profound despite the difficult process. I love this group for helping me through the difficult times and my surgeons for having the skill to give me their gifts. I still have some residual numbness....however many years later. my lower lip and chin.....but...managable and well worth the trade. My well wishes to all in their journies, Cyn
Guest guest
hey cyn :-), it's great to see you posting here after a long time :-) and it's even better to hear that everything's fine with the post-op results...i'm one year post-op from lower jaw surgery and have also residual numbness in the left part of my lower lip and chin but i got used to it and it doesn't bother me so much as it did in the beginning of the recovery process...anyway, what about your retainers, did you throw them away? :> took off my braces two months ago and wearing mine religiously ;-) best regards, nina > Hi all, > > A bizarre thing happened to me today that I wanted to share with you. > I looked at the calander and realized that I was several years post- > op on May 1st. Guest guest
Hi Nina, I have a grossly guilty confession. I lost my retainers while vacationing in Italy. I didn't replace them. Instead I occasionaly plop that Old Man Rubber (post op positioner) in my mouth for a few hours while cleaning the toilets and scrubbing under the refrigerator. It enhances the tortured Cinderella effect I am going for, reminds my teeth where they should be and the silver clasps coordinate nicely with my tiara. So far.....holding steady with miniscule movement to my lower left lateral which threw it's distal edge forward slightly, Kindof cute really. Let's everyone know I'm.... " OH, so HUMAN! " That numbness has become my normal....amazing how we adapt. Great things to you in your recovery. Guest guest
Hey Cynderella :-), I can't believe you're not wearing ANYTHING during the night :-) but I'm glad to hear that you've had no significant teeth movement whatsoever. When I asked my ortho how long I would be wearing my retainers, he said one year and then probably will have only two permanent wires bonded behind my upper and lower front teeth. I'm not so optimistic as he is...just don't think that bloody teeth will be stable enough without these little annoying appliances to keep them in place. hope you're still making those beautiful paintings ;-) best wishes to our true orthognatic goddess :-) nina > Hi Nina, > > I have a grossly guilty confession. > I lost my retainers while vacationing in Italy. Guest guest
Hi Sister Goddess Dear, It amazes me how stable my teeth feel after having the sensation of them being anchored in yesterday's Jello for so long. I don't even think now before biting into tough, hard or chewy stuff.Peanut Brittle is my friend and the width of my ass can attest to how easily and eagerly I eat anything and everything in my path. Fixing my bite and sinuses brought a new heightened level of dining and olfactory pleasure. Out went the waif...in bolted the ...Mama Mia.....ooolala....voluptuous Italian peasant. esque in all my cellulited and happy splendor. Chewing steak, chompin apples, biting biscotti....washing it all down with rivers of red wine. Ahhhhh.........anyone hungry? Abandoning ones retainer 3-4 years post-op is certainly not recommended. My Ortho and surgeon told me to be prepared to wear it occasionally forever. This makes complete sense to me sadly, I have always been one prone to being " Bad " and taking risks. On the flip side of that, if I suspected that my teeth were relapsing or beginning to stray.....I would be first in line for replacement retainers. My positioner, which is an active appliance bought me the confidence to live without the retainers. I Did have a long, loving and deeply personal relationship with Old Man Rubber....so am very attached and hestiant to let him go. The retainers seem so shallow and superficial in comparison. Still painting. Kisses to you, Cyn > > Hi Nina, > > > > I have a grossly guilty confession. > > I lost my retainers while vacationing in Italy. I didn't replace > > them. Guest guest
Wooo-hooo, and giggle-giggle, snort-snort! The orthognathic goddess is back! Cyn, I had surgery in June 2002, and I'm thinking that you were probably the spring before me... Or maybe a year before. But I'd guess 2002... As in you were May, and I was late June... Does that sound right? Guest guest
I'm number impaired... of course I mean to say I'd guess your surgery was in may 2001! But you knew that.
