Guest guest
Here are some pics I have so far.(upper/lower/gernio) I am 5.5 weeks post- op. As much as I love my new chin, I hate my new smile. As you can see from my pre-surgery photo, I had a huge smile with alot of teeth showing and it was the only feature that I was happy about. Now it looks strange to me. Hopefully it's due to some residual swelling left. My OS says he can still see some swelling, so I hope that my teeth will show as much as it did pre-op. So far I still have some numbess is my lower lip and chin. I can feel some everything on my face, but it's still kinda stiff. Doc still has me on a non-chew diet but I've been getting by just fine. I'm still, of course, not used to the new me. Sometimes I miss my old face. As much as everyone says I look good, I still feel like I look weird when I look in the mirror. I'm sure it's gonna take quite a while to get used to. Here goes.. http://www.geocities.com/thy733/Surgery.html

Guest guest
Hi Thy, I had a smiliar problem with not being able to smile post-op. I was really worried that the surgeon had messed up, because all I could show was the tips of my two front upper teeth (before I could flash quite a lot of gum and teeth). I also had that stiff upper lip feeling for a long time. It really does get better. Today I can show all of my teeth, but no gum. And there is no hint of the stiffness I had post-op. The residual swelling up there can take months to go down, so you'll have to be more patient, I'm afraid. I had that 'stranger-in-the-mirror' syndrome too. Remember, it's still you inside. The strangeness will eventually wear off. Again, it takes time. Everyone tends to underestimate the amount of recovery this procedure takes. Be gentle with yourself! You're getting there, bit by bit. pix under Fiddlesticks' folder on site 2 at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/orthognathicsurgerysite2 > Here are some pics I have so far.(upper/lower/gernio) I am 5.5 weeks > post- op.
