Guest guest
The first electric w/c my father bought Medicare and his Blue Cross supplemental paid for in its entirety. It was a big hassle (had to get Dr. to write letter, etc., lots of paperwork), but probably worth it for the $6,000. Because my father refused to see an OT to be fitted for a w/c, he ended up not liking the original chair he got and ended up purchasing a much, much more expensive w/c himself. It had all the bells and whistles, including a cool feature that allowed him to raise the w/c so he could be on eye level with a standing person and could reach items on top shelves in stores. Fortunately, he and my mother were in a financial situation that allowed that. I doubt Medicare would have paid for that chair anyway since it was so expensive. Unfortunately, he died just 6 days after getting his new w/c. It's is literally brand new and we don't know how to get rid of either chair. There isn't much of a market for used w/c as insurance cos. won't reimburse for used chairs. in OK --- Ray fourdiamonds@...> wrote: > , > Did your dad buy his electric wheelchair outright or > did he have insurance > help him?
