My husband had something like a systemic gout that caused him

tremendous pain. He had gone on one of those all protein diets and

just about killed himself. He had an attack of uric acid and he was

sick for quite awhile and ended up on crutches. Maybe you are

getting too much protein in an effort to increase your healing after

your surgery? BTW, he did recover but missed his trips at work (he

flies for a living) and also missed helping me move when the house

was ready some four years ago, good timing. He hasn't had any other

flare up since then and has not ever done the protein to excess like

that again. Sometimes too much of a good thing is too much.

Hope you will be feeling better soon.

Interesting wrinkle, Donna. I had not given that a thought, but I do

get uric acid kidney stones. Hmmm, I'll mention it to the docs.

But, I thought that gout attacks the extremities (hands, feet,

fingers, toes), usually. Also, I am getting one heck of a lot of

protein.

Gout happens in joints. It can be any joint, but you are right, it

is usually the big toe and the fingers. Usually....My husband gets

gout in his knees.
