Was this reactive hypoglycemia?

Well, I may have joined the club. I read with interest all the posts

a few weeks ago, and thought " Well, it hasn't happened to me yet, but

it might eventually, " and then...

I went to a party on Christmas Eve. Now, my drink of choice these

days is Absolut Mandarin & club soda with a piece of lemon, and I can

usually drink a few with no problems (don't worry, I don't drive when

I drink). Anyway, I had only 1 drink, ate some Mexican dip and

lasagna, also stuff I've had before. Then, my girlfriend brought out

a bottle of the most awesome homemade 's Irish Cream that she

makes every Christmas, and all I had was a couple of sips, when all

of a sudden, I got a little warm. Went to sit closer to the door for

some cooler air, the buzzing in the ears started, the sweating and

that " OMG! I'm gonna pass out " feeling. Well, I fought the fainting,

made it to the bathroom, sat on the john fully clothed with the trash

can moved next to me in case I barfed, and just waited for it to

pass, all the while dripping with sweat. I thought about maybe

having the runs, but I thought no way in hell were they gonna find me

that way if I did pass out! LOL

Now, in the past, the few times I've dumped, it's been pretty mild,

just a tummy ache or maybe cold sweats once, but nothing like this.

I've always been able to eat a piece of cake or a couple of cookies,

or even an occasional sweet drink with no problems, but whoa baby,

this really beat me down! I thought about peanut butter, but no

peanut butter there, then someone suggested orange juice, but I

didn't know for sure what it was, so I settled for a glass of water.

It took about 45 minutes for it to pass, then, of course, I went home.

So, whaddaya think? Does that sound like what it was?

I was really not sure if it was bad dumping or not, but to me, the

ear-buzzing and almost fainting was what made me think it was a hypoglycemic

thing. I've certainly never dumped like that before. I don't remember

having the shaking so much, but then, I was fighting not to faint. Pretty

unnerving.

Sounds like it to me....I usually start with that warm feeling and then it

progresses to a cold sweat with shaking....I have found that some protein/carb

combo (peanutbutter crackers, cheese and crackers) makes it pass in less than 15

mins).
