Guest guest
Hello group, I am just beginning my ortho journey, with previous bite splint corrections and now have my braces. Any helpful advice on the first few days of a raw mouth from these wires? I am hoping the inside of my cheeks will get used to all this, but for now it is fairly painful. I guess this is nothing compared to the mand. advancement surgery to come, so I will just say hello and stop complaining! regards, Lucy
Guest guest
Wax, wax and more wax. Or silicone, if you prefer those preparations. It will get better, honestly. Your mouth will toughen up, just in time for a tooth to move and a new spot to be irritated! Some folks also like rinsing with Amosan. And actually, most people don't have a lot of pain with the mandibular advancement, thank heavens! (I didn't.) Welcome here! Guest guest
Hi Lucy, I have braces too! I'm having a lower jaw advancement the end of July. Try some wax on your braces that might help. Your mouth will sort of " callus " inside and it doesn't take long, then it probably won't bother you at all. Take care! Guest guest
Hi Lucy - Feel with your fingers around all your braces to see if there are any sharp wires sticking out. If there are none, it's just the normal process of getting used to the braces. It takes a little while but soon you won't hardly notice them. In the meantime you can try some Ambesol on the areas that are really sore. That stuff works great. Hope this helps, Jay > Hello group, > > I am just beginning my ortho journey, with previous bite splint > corrections and now have my braces. Guest guest
Thanks for the advice, people! I applied wax last night, it did help quite a bit, but then I swallowed it all with my cup of coffee in the morning. It should be fairly benign in the system although a bit bland. Good day! Guest guest
hey there! you are three weeks behind me, i got my braces 3 1/2 weeks ago. the day i got them on, the woman who put my braces on told me, " have a good meal tonight, you will be sore tomorrow " . so we went to noodles and co and got some pasta take out. i could barely eat even half of my food, i couldn't eat at all. i thought i was going to have the hardest time wearing braces. but it gets so much better every day. i can eat anything now (well, anything on my 'braces safe' list anyway, as much as i'm dying for some popcorn!). one thing that i thought helped was wearing wax during the day if needed, but not wearing wax at night. i thought it helped my mouth toughen up and i didn't really have much pain as i was asleep. you can read my blog if you like, i've been writing about my time in braces so far. http://corisoralfun.blogspot.com/ i go in tomorrow for my first adjustment... so back to soup tomorrow! good luck! > > > Hello group, > > > > > > I am just beginning my ortho journey, with previous bite splint > > > corrections and now have my braces. Guest guest
I am having lower jaw surgery sometime next year (keeping my fingers crossed that they don't extend the time). I had my braces put on 4 weeks ago today and the first day after having them put on was the only day I felt real pain and took some tylenol. After that, it was just an uncomfortable feeling. I'm finally used to having them on...the bad part is that I only have them on the top teeth right now and will soon get them put on the bottom teeth and am not looking forward to having a mouthful of braces. I did have sores on my cheeks for a little while and just used anbesol (sp?). I tried the wax but I couldn't get it on right and then when I did it kept falling off and chewing was is not fun. Just hang in there and keep eating the mac & cheese and mashed potatoes > Hello group, > > I am just beginning my ortho journey, with previous bite splint > corrections and now have my braces.
