Guest guest
My name is , and I am going into surgery in 22 days on the 29th of this month. I've been reading a lot online and would love get to know some of you. When I think about my surgery, I get a little qeasy. I can't wait till its over, but I know the day of surgery I'll probably be scared to death. I have had a terrible underbite my entire life, and I'm having upper and lower jaw surgery to correct it. Any advise for getting rid of the pre-op jitters? And who is really the best person to be with you in the surgery room... My mom is an even more nervous person than I am! -
Guest guest
Hi , I am having surgery on July 8 for an underbite, upper will be moved forward 5mm and lower moved back 3mm. I have my pre-op appointment June 16 and I am starting to get nervous, the thing I have have found best for this is to read as much as possible on these sites, site 2 has a lot less postings than this one I have made it a point to go back to message 1 and read as many postings as I can, if you skip over the ones that are chit chat and only read the ones with sugery and recovery info it goes pretty fast. I have learned a lot this way and it has also kind of de-sensitized me to the fear and nervousness of the surgery. After reading so many cases I realize that this surgery is not as unusual as I thought it was and most people have come through saying it was not as bad as they thought. Hope this helps, keep us posted on your progress. I am going to have my mother with me as well, even though she is a nervous person I can't imagine doing this with out her. I am 36 years old but just the thought of my mother's presence comforts me. Marsha > My name is , and I am going into surgery in 22 days on the > 29th of this month. Guest guest
, I'm a week ahead of you on the surgery side. The thing that has helped me avoid most of the pre-surgery jitters is planning. I've kept track of what to expect as I've watched this board for the past 15 months. I've got plans in place for everything from how to get to the hospital, to who is going to take care of the kids while I'm recuperating. I've got my list (posted under the files section here) of what to buy before, and what to expect after. Bottom line, is I've got myself as informed, and busy, as possible. The two combined help. Let me know if there's anything I or any of the other June buddies can do to help! Dammit > My name is , and I am going into surgery in 22 days on the > 29th of this month. Guest guest
hi, christina! i felt exactly as you did about the surgery. i am nearly three months post-op now so its easy for me to say that there is nothing to worry about. what are you most afraid of? first of all, try not to think about it too hard. and when you start getting anxious, just takes some deep breaths. breathe in deep and let it out slowly. do this a few times and you will feel better. try to focus on the positive... think about how much you will love your new bite and getting rid of your underbite. my dad was at the hospital with me... he is very good at handling stuff like that and i was grateful to have him there. if you have someone who is very level-headed, its best to bring them with you. although, i'm sure you mum will want to be there for you too. take care, heather > My name is , and I am going into surgery in 22 days on the > 29th of this month.
