Guest guest
Hi all - I am having surgery on Wednesday morning, June 9. Lower jaw advancement, about 7 mm. I had my meeting with the OS this afternoon and he says everything is all set. Of course I'm starting to get a little nervous but what else is new. The ortho is putting my hooks on tomorrow afternoon. My OS is a very experienced guy. My ortho (another really experienced guy) recommended him and they have worked together many times on cases similar to mine. My OS says he has either personally done or observed " hundreds " of these procedures (mandibular sagittal split with internal rigid fixation). The hospital is top-notch so what can go wrong? They gave me a grab bag: kiddy tooth brush, zip n squeeze bags, boost, sensodyne toothpaste and some little strip thermometers to stick in your mouth in case you think you might have a fever. I guess I'm ready - my wife will be taking a few days off from work to look after me, bless her heart. Little does she know we'll be shooting scenes from " Exorcist 2004. " I'll let you know how it goes. Jay

Guest guest
Hi Jay, Good luck with your surgery on Wednesday. I had upper/lower on June 2nd and each day is better than the day before for me...thank God! I know that everyone is different...for the most part I knew what to expect (post-surgery) from reading the posts on these boards...that has helped me a great deal. Take care and good luck again. You will be in my thoughts a prayers. We'll see you on the other side! With regards, Dale

Guest guest
Howdy, Jay! I'll bet you'll be fine. If you're having lower jaw surgery only, you're not likely to have the congestion and breathing troubles that folks often have with the upper. I had lower advancement by BSSO almost two years ago, and was surprised that things went as smoothly as they did. (and delighted!) I did use the morphine they gave me in the hospital. I did use the Lortab they sent me home with. Fortunately, I wasn't allergic to anything, had no bad reactions and really got through the whole thing pretty easily. Lots of fatigue, but no real problems. Take care, and to all who are up for surgery this week, good thoughts go to you! Cammie > Hi all - > > I am having surgery on Wednesday morning, June 9. Guest guest
Good luck Jay, It looks like we have the same surgery day. I'm having lower advancement. I had upper and lower done in sept 2002, so I know what to exspect. It actually isn't as bad as it sounds, you'll do just fine. Good luck. Guest guest
Jay, you're gonna be just fine. Concentrate on the bright side of things instead of asking what could go wrong ;-) And being on the other side for a week now, I can tell you, it's as bad as it sounds! ....if you can have Jell-O that is, afterwards! ;-) Ray
