Guest guest
I think that the pop-up ads some people are seeing are in the messages when we read them on the Yahoo website, rather than downloading them into our email. I know when I read my lists at Yahoo (if I'm at work or elsewhere and not reading my email) I get so disgusted with the constant pop-ups. Ever 2 or 3 messages you HAVE to pass through advertising to get to the next message, and there are ads that look like pop-ups embedded in all the messages. (Pop-up killers do not stop these, as they are an embed in the page and not a separate page). A lot of times the yokels who figure out our preferences just take any and all ads having to do with weight loss, and dump them into lists that have to do with weight loss. In the different kinds of groups I am on, the themes of the advertising change. For some reason they seem to think that all pagans are looking for viagra, boob enlargement and bigger, um, maleness. They think people who are on groups to discuss their ancestors have a need for hidden mini-cams and shopping from catalogs. And so it goes. It's extremely frustrating to read Yahoo messages AT Yahoo, and of course they dump advertising into all our email as well, but I've learned to ignore it. (One group I was on collected the money to send to Yahoo to get advertising removed from all messages.) You can set your preferences to get rid of advertising coming directly to you, but you can't make it go away in the messages unless the group pays for the service. I do get a chuckle, though, when I see WLS being advertised on a WLS group! ~~ Lyn G
