Guest guest
Hi all, I have a question for you vets out there. I am prone to cold sores and when I get dehydrated for whatever reason and get severly chapped lips I always get cold sores. With all of the stories of chapped lips I've heard, it seems like this may be highly likely post-op. I really don't want to have to deal with that on top of everythig. Anyone out there prone to cold sores who can give me any feedback on this? I'd like to be prepared and start taking lysine if necessary. Guest guest
I, too, am prone to cold sores, but was lucky enough not to break out! I think it had something to do with the numbness and the nerve damage.... but it is just my hypothesis I did get some Zovirax cream just in case. I normally use this when I break out. I ask my OS about the pill that's out there, but he thought the cream was more effective. Good Luck! ~Cathy Cold sores Hi all, I have a question for you vets out there. Guest guest
Your doctor can write you a script for Valtrex pills to prevent a coldsore outbreak or to help heal the outbreak faster. > Hi all, > > I have a question for you vets out there. Guest guest
Talk with your surgeon about this. There is an anti-viral medicine available -- they gave it to me when I developed shingles about two months post op. I don't know whether it's a good idea for those who are post op, or whether he'd suggest something else, but at least give him a shot at helping you with it. However, the thing is, you mustn't let yourself become dehydrated for a lot of reasons -- and not just because you don't want cold sores. If you do, you may wind up with one or more return visits to the hospital to get fluids intravenously. This is important. Cammie > Hi all, > > I have a question for you vets out there. Guest guest
Hi Marsha- I, too, am quite prone to cold sores...so I was worried about getting them after my surgery. I am happy to report that I have not gotten any cold sores thus far (I am over 5 weeks post-op). Also, my lips didn't get chapped at all. I used MAC lip balm and I was fine.
