My family, however, rejects both of those foods completely, so they have requested an assortment of finger foods for their meal (won tons stuffed with spicy meatballs, cheese sticks, mini-tacos, devilled eggs, and pigs-in-blankets). Hehehe - I just noticed that even the foods they want tend to be protein heavy Kate

Guest guest
>> Now I have a friend who tapes it for me every year and I watch it the following year. So this year we'll be watching the 2002 Mummers!<< One of my FAVORITE things about living here in NJ! I have watched the Mummers since I can remember. My granny got me into it when I was very young. The string bands and the fancy brigades are my faves. (You can keep the drunk comic divisions..lol). An ex-coworker actually HIRED the Ferko String Band to play at her son's wedding earlier this year! Wish I had been invited..lol. It was expensive, but no one but the parents of the groom knew about it, and it was a super suprise for everyone. We really don't have a traditional FOOD for New Year's Day. We never really had a big dinner. Just Christmas leftovers..lol. Boy...the blackeyed peas AND the pork and sauerkraut sure sound good to this Yankee!! =o) Blessings, Cindy Lou PS: In the past, the Travel Channel has broadcast the Mummer's Parade... ¸,ø ¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸ Do you know that if all the smokers were laid end to end around the world, three quarters of them would drown? ¸,ø ¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸ Lost 300+ lbs Gained :::LIFE::: My Home Page: http://www.ptl4wls.com My Graphics List: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Grafix4Jesus/ My Christian WLS List: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/OSSG-WLSChristian/ " I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears. Guest guest
Ah the Mummers. I am 60 years old now, but when I was in High School I lived right in the staging area for the parade (south Philadelphia). To me, it was the graddaddy of all parades. I would do the strut for weeks afterward. Of course being a fatty, I thought I looked foolish so I only did it at home. Thanks for the memory Fay Bayuk

Guest guest
Traditionally, we have ham and blackeyed peas. Got the ham but Danes don't even know what field, blackeyed, or limas are. Hubby does it the Danish way New Years Eve. It's quite the spread! Different ingredients on open faced sandwiches. It's really a lot of work. There are so many combos that I can't remember them all but I'll give you some of the things he uses. He buys all this...salmon, shrimp, bacon, ham, salami, some kind of geled beef stock, eggs which he boils, lettus, onions, butter, light and dark bread, lemons and he takes it all and makes a decorative " smorrebrod " . If you'd like to peak, here's some pics.... http://www.downtown28.dk/smbrod3.asp http://www.downtown28.dk/smbrod4.asp http://www.downtown28.dk/smbrod5.asp Dawn

When I don't eat what I want, I go thru a lot of food trying to feed the craving something else that it really doesn't want, and end up eating a lot more than if I'd just had the stuff I craved in the first place. LOL These holiday temptations have been horrible on my head hunger!!! I would like to hear how others have done during the holidays with so much temptation around. Guest guest
I just eat a bite or two of any temptation that's calling my name. Deprivation is the guaranteed path to a food binge for me. I was at 130 this morning, right in my acceptable range of 128 to 133, so I guess it's working. I've actually been surprised at how FEW of the beautiful holiday things have really called my name, though. Even candy canes don't strike me just right anymore, and I used to have one in my mouth (sucked to a cruelly sharp point usually LOL) from about December 15 until January 2 each year. Whatever. *shrug* I can guarantee you if I decided that candy canes were OFF LIMITS for any reason, I would have either eaten ten of them in one day OR something else until I threw up. Guest guest
In the true tradition of the South of Alabama...we will eat: Black Eyed Peas & Ham bone - for good luck and coin money in the new year Collards - for folding money in the new year Cornbread - from scratch just cause it goes with the rest, LOL! Can't eat much of the cornbread, but I still love it. Love, Reba in Auburn, AL
Guest guest
Estela, Terrible, that's how I did. I made candy and pumpkin bread and gave it all away. Then the neighbors sent more over in reply. Ugh!!! I made Thanksgiving dinner, (kept it small so there weren't many left overs) so my dear mother-in-law made Christmas dinner. Then sent all the leftovers to my house. Ugh!! Sent them with the kids because I wouldn't take them. (never knew a teen who could pass up a pie) Anyway, set my resolve to only eat at meal times, only small portions. Ha!! Once the family got here, we nibbled and ate all day. Only vomited once, that was a plus. Could have been much worse. Next morning I threw out all the remaining fudge, biscochitos, pie. Sent the ham back to mother-in-law. Only one more holiday to get through, thank God. Margie in New Mexico RNY 9-7-01 252/135ish Re: meal plan? Guest guest
You and me both. I could eat Pho soup every day of the week! Isn't it just the greatest? In fact, I could survive on the broth alone. Guest guest
The biggest problem I have with Pho soup is.......they give me WAY too much! And it doesn't taste good reheated! Then these little teeny tiny Vietnamese people look at what I have eaten and ask if I am sick...didn't the soup taste good. Sheesh. Until I tried Vietnamese food I didn't know that I like FRESH herbs uncooked in things. LOL I had always used fresh herbs......but they went into things I was cooking. Guest guest
Debbie, I love fish but rather Gulf fish or shrimp from the Gulf of Mexico! There's plenty of other stuff too. Plenty of protein and yummy veggies. That's what I'm grabbing. You could enjoy the fireworks too! I have never seen so many in my entire life going off at once. Everyone has them! It goes on for 30 mins to an hour. We just watch safely from the windows. Dawn
