Guest guest
Hi everybody- my surgery is scheduled for this Thursday to have my lower jaw moved back to fix my underbite. I am sixteen and really nervous. I have a few last minute questions that I hope will calm me a little bit. First, I think I'm the most nervous about the numbness. For some reason I think I hate that feeling more than pain. But, is the numbness that apparent? Will I really not be able to feel my face or tell when i have something on it? Also, when i had my wisdom teeth removed it hurt to bend over, and it still hurts whenever i had a cold (in the area where the teeth were removed) Is this going to happen with this surgery also? My doctor said that my teeth probably will not have to be wired shut, and i did not buy any of those zip and squeeze products- so will i be able to eat with a straw in the beginning or a spoon? Also, I was wondering what it feels like after the tube is removed from the surgery. I didn't find out about this until my pre-operative appointment 3 days ago- will it be really painful in my throat and nose? (and my doctor said it may make my nose stuffy- so will i have trouble breathing since my mouth will be relatively closed?) Anyways, I know the surgery is ultimately the best thing for me but I am not at all looking forward to it- I'll try to post after my surgery as soon as possible. If anyone else has gone through this same surgery or is about to and wants to be support buddies - I'd love to. Thanks
Guest guest
Hey - I'm right there with ya, my surgery is tomorrow morning. I am nervous too but the best thing is not to worry about things you can't control. For example you can't control that tube or what it feels like when it's in there or what it feels like when it comes out. Don't even think about it. If you're numb for awhile you just have to deal - what else can you do? Worrying won't help. At this point the wheels are in motion - just go with it and I'll see you 'on the other side' as they say around here. The stuff you can control is making sure you have plenty of stuff to eat and drink when you get home. I found that if you get prepared at home, you won't feel quite so out-of-control. If not zip-n- squeeze, I'm sure they'll give you something that will work just fine. Make sure you have plenty of games for your X-box, etc. Personally I plan to get very skilled at the Tiger Woods golf game. I also have the latest Bond if that's not enough. I'm not a big soap- opera guy. Some other advice I got was to take the pain medication religiously even if you don't feel pain, at least for a few days. Good luck and keep posting - Jay > Hi everybody- my surgery is scheduled for this Thursday to have my > lower jaw moved back to fix my underbite. I am sixteen and really > nervous.
