Hi all -

Had surgery this morning (BSSO) at 8:30 am.

Beleve it or not I'm using the Web access they

have in my hospital room.

All things considered, I'd say I feel pretty good.

No pain to speak of, but I have a bit of a sore

throat (nothing major) and sort of a dry mouth in

general.

They gave me Zip n Squeeze bags here and I'm

drinking water/juice/Ensure.

I'm dozing off as I write this so I'll close for now.

They even have the Angels game on the TV which

is very nice.

Bye for now,

Jay

Jay,

good luck on your recovery! You're exactly one week before me (Wed

16 June)!

Congratulations!

And congratulations to the management of your hospital, too. Sounds

as though they have a really forward-thinking approach.

The sore throat is most likely from the intubation, and will go away,

probably, by the end of the week.

Best,

Cammie

Feels pretty good to be on the other side, at least the fear of the

unknown has been eliminated.

Right now I'm swollen like a chipmunk on one side but only slightly

swollen on the other side. I wonder why that is? When I look in

the mirror I remind myself of one of my chubby friends. My wife

says she still loves me however which is nice. She always did like

that chubby guy.

Also I have the numbness in the lower lip that extends down to the

chin. My lips have obviously been stretched beyond their limits as

they are somewhat cracked and dry in the corners.

Talk to you soon -

Jay

That's so true !!!!!! I guess that this alone has got me going the first

few days, when the rest seemed like the world wanted a revenge on

me, kind of.. :-)

In my particular case, there was more work done on my right side than

on the left one. That explain the extra swelling.

Luckylli as well, my brother and friends still say I look terrific (they're

all lying so nicely, I cannot ignore them... lol!). Seriously, everyone

agreed I looked like a stuff animal at fist, but 9 days later, the swelling

is 80% gone. So be patient... it'll go away.

Numbness... talk to me about that... I think there's not a spot bellow

my eyes which isn't numb, at some degree. Bellow my eyes it's absolute

darkness. No sensation, not even tingling. In the sinus area, it's numb +

swollen. From the ears to the mouth, it ok to totally numb (I feel something,

but not much), and it kind of burns, constantly. No fever, so I know it's not

an infection. My tongue is 100%, with the left side being totally in the dark.

My upper lip (outisde) is numb, but the interior hurts a lot if I try to move

it.

So being numb, I'd say... it's ok ;-)

As for your lips, try to put stuff on them. I didn't want at first (creams and

lipstick

and everything alike... I'm not particularly found of), but it really helped!

Ray, for the lips -- try Vitamin E oil. It's messy and oily, but it

doesn't have that creamy feeling. It also helps promote healing.

Down here, we can get it in the pharmacy, or we can buy capsules and

pop one open to get to the oil.
