Well I made it to the other side for the second time. I seem to have

alot more swelling this time, I have some pics posted from the first

surgery, I will have to post new ones. Surgery went very well, about

1 1/2 hours, and was home around 8:00pm last night. I haven't slept

much today, and am hoping I can sleep tonight.

I am having trouble sleeping also - my surgery was Wednesday

morning, it's now Friday morning and I haven't gotten more than

about 2 hours without waking up. Is it because of the anti-

inflammatory medicine?

, I'm glad you're ok! It's gonna be less tough on you, probably, because

you already know what to expect.

Again, congratulations, you've made it !!!

I was at the hospital for four days, and I couldn't sleep well untill the third

night,

where they removed the morphine. I couldn't get more than 30 minutes of sleep

without waking up, then another injection (self service distributor) followed by

15 to 30 minutes of sleep.

No wonder I got home so exhausted! I slept almost 20 hours on day #1 home,

and about the same amount on day #2 (with the codeine having a not totally

different effect then morphine, once I got home).

I added gravol to my meds as it helps with nausea (which is really

great once you start draining more...) but its side effect is it

makes you sleepier. So I was getting a nice night sleep and able to

nap during the day.

Jay,

I've had quite a bit of trouble sleeping as well. I'm not really sure what the

problem

is, or even if there is one problem. I suspect it is a few things that keep you

up.

I've been trying different things, benedryl, codene, ambien...which have all

been ok.

I'd fall asleep, and then wake up like an hour later. The sleep deprevation has

been a

tough part of the healing process.

I tried a different drug last night. It did the trick. I smoked the wacky

tabacci. I got

the best night sleep last night that I have gotten since before the surgery.

I'm not

sure if it is a good idea or not to do, but hey, I got a great night sleep, and

I feel

much better today. You may want to wait until you can open your mouth a little,

but

its worth a shot, and the side effects are much better than other drugs.

Thanks for the tip - maybe I'll give that a try.

Cammie,

That is an excellent question.

I just made a big vanilla milkshake. It was a little thick, but I managed. It

held me

over for the evening.

If you feel comfortable smoking a little, I highly recommend doing so. The side

effects were really what I was looking for (putting me to sleep -- which it

did), but it

also felt good to laugh again.

It took me 2 days at home before I could finally be able to sleep a full 8 hours

in a row. In the ICU, they monitor the pressure and various other signs every

30 minutes (or so it looked like), and that kept me awake for the first two

nights.

When I got transfered on Friday, I couldn't sleep because it got discovered

that I had a bad reaction to morphine. Which, of course, I used extensively

until that time.

I was back home on Saturday evening, and I slept more than at the hospital,

but still, nothing " serious " . Until the Monday night. That's when my body

finally got rid of the morphine.

So I'd say if you use that stuff a lot, be patient. It will eventually go away.

You might also be still anxious about the surgery, eventhough it's behind

you. Some people take more time to realize an event that big is something

of the past.
