Let them support you through going back to the beginning. When you lose those few pounds again, you will be so happy and in turn have this experience to pass on to your group. As far as your granddaughter goes, I truly believe that this is a disease. I also believe that your granddaughter will be going through what I went through and what my daughter went through with the weight problems. But we did not have the teasing problem. We carried ourselves in a way that prevented teasing. The only thing we can do for our children and grandchildren is instill pride and self esteem. No matter what anyone tells you, you cannot control your children's eating. Many people brag that they have provided their children with good nutrition and instilled good eating habits. I believe that can be done only when the child does not have the disease. There was a wonderful show on TLC about the chemical and mechanical causes of obesity. If it gets on again, I will notify everyone. My best to you and happy New Year. Fay Bayuk 300/176 10/23/
Guest guest
Leaves I hope that all of you have a very wonderful New Year. I have mostly lurked here for awhile, but I have several serious things on my mind that I desperately need help with. First, I have a lovely 9 year old granddaughter who is overweight and suffering. She is in a new school for gifted children and is being teased and bullied about her weight and her name-Indigo. I just don't know how to help her. She lives with my ex-daughter-in-law who has always been kind and generous to us regarding visits with my Granddaughter. And I think that she would be OK if I brought up the topic to her-but what advice can I give her?! I have read horror stories about people who have been forced to diet at a young age. I don't want this for my sweetheart. When she comes to visit, I don't have a lot of high calorie snacks around but she just eats too much. And if there are cookies in the house, she will sneak them to her bedroom and eat them. I just don't know how to help her. Second, I had my surgery 18 months ago and all went well until this past summer. I gained 10 pounds because of grazing all day and then felt so guilty that I let myself gain another 10. I feel like the world's biggest failure. I am the leader of a support group for weight loss surgery patients and I have written a workbook for WLS patients, So I certainly should never have found myself with this problem. So now I am not only a failure, I am a hypocrite if I talk about the sucess of the surgery. Help! My support group is getting together for a New Year's Eve bash at my home. So thank you for the reminder to serve my black eyed peas tomorrow night. Since I am part of a family of Swedes that live in the Rio Grande valley in Texas, I shall also include pickeled herring on the menu. Thank you for your help. Guest guest
And another AMEN........I think (big THINK) that I have finally resigned myself to believe that I cannot dictate my childs jeans. I have four lovely children 2 are built like and look like my hubbys side....2 are built and look exactly like me.......they all grew up in the same enviroment.....my 2 are heavy, hubby's 2 are thin!! As hard as I try it goes sooo against the heavy two's desires to eat the " good " stuff, or in normal amounts.........they are also the 2 that try at any cost to " reserve " energy! Man, it is soooo very hard to watch your child travel your very harrowing road in life!!!!!! P.
