Guest guest
Ladies & Gentlemen, I would just like to announce that I have been given the all clear to resume eating soft foods. I know some of you are wired shut, and can't eat any solid food for 4-6 weeks. Just as a testiment to your strength, I am going to bitch about a week and a half of liquids. That was tough for me. But, kudos to you guys, for being able to hold out so long. My first meal was two bowls of pasta with meat sauce and two sliced up peaches. Of course it was one of the best meals that I have ever eaten, but what really surprised me was the awkwardness with which I ate. I figured it would be just sort of hard to move my jaw up and down, but it was just a flat out wierd feeling...almost as though it wasnt my own jaw I was controlling. It probably took me about an hour to put all the food down, but well worth it. I can feel the energy level beginning to rise back up a little bit. I'm sure as I continue to eat soft foods, I will get more and more used to my new bite, but this was something that I wasnt really expecting. Anyways, as always, good luck to the June surgery group. I hope everyone's recovery is a breeze. -AJ

I know I am, so I'll probably feel the same way you did when I'll start eating again, in 6 days. Ray
Guest guest
Hey thanks for the kind words, Ray. As for the numbness, I wouldn't say my lower jaw is numb. Rather, my chin and lips (to a lesser extent) are numb. The roof of my mouth is beginning to regain feeling, as is my upper lip. Checks and nostrils are still fairly numb as well (more on my right side than on my left). One of the harder parts of eating is trying to move the food from place to place inside your mouth. I guess, before the surgery, you don't really think about food moving within your mouth. You must do it subconscienciosly. Now, I really have to work my tongue around, and suck the food down without use of any mouth muscles. Proding a fork fairly deep inside my mouth seems to help as well. Swallowing is not an issue, just getting the food into the proper spot in order to swallow is the problem. Just a few thoughts on returning to eating. -AJ > > Ladies & Gentlemen, > > > > I would just like to announce that I have been given the all clear to resume eating soft > > foods. Guest guest
That's awesome - so there is life after Ensure...! Nice choice for first meal also - I think mine will also be pasta. Don't know about the peaches though. Anyway, congrats and try not to bite yourself.
