Guest guest
I have already had my surgeries Vbg and Rny revision well over a year ago. But I have a friend who is on Medicare now who badly wants to have this surgery for other health probs.. But she says she doesn't think Medicare would allow it. I know nothing about medicare soooo. Is there any one out there who had WLS using medicare and can tell me what she needs to do if her primary care doctor thinks it would help her? Thanks for any info Karin/Weinette
Guest guest
Medicare is like any other insurance, they should cover it. I personally did not have it covered through Medicare. A friend of mine is the founder of Life's Forgotten Angels and helps people that are MO get the surgery, medical equipment, medical care etc and often works with people who are on disability. It seems to make financial sense to have the surgery and decrease the expense of the co-morbidity issues. Just my ever so humble opinion. Lori Owen - Denton, Texas CHF 4/14/01 479 lbs. My understanding is that Medicare will not preapprove any procedure. You have to have it done and then let them decide if it was medically necessary or not. I suppose the only thing to do is build the best case, get the letters of medical necessity in the file from both the PCP and surgeon and go forward, praying all the way. Guest guest
That sounds like a good plan. One other thing you might want from your PCP is a letter listing medically supervised diets and/or any medication taken for weight loss. Some insurance companies require 3 medically supervised diets, others want it for the last 3 to 5 years. Also, if you weigh to much to be weighed on their scale, have your PCP include that in the letter. The more information you have, the better it will be. Just an ever so humble opinion.
