Guest guest
....so it's a good time to post. It's almost post-op day 3. My bottles of antibiotics and pain meds are half-empty. I've been a pretty good boy, resting quietly and keeping my ice packs on. The swelling is going down a bit I think. It's 2:00 am and I just woke up after about 5 hours of sleep, which is the most I've had in one stretch since before the surgery. Things are going pretty well. One side of my face is significantly more swollen than the other, which is too bad, because the lesser side looks pretty good. But as we all know, day 3 is not the time to be studying one's face in the mirror. The antibiotics taste terrible. It's this pink stuff Cephalexin or something like that. The pain meds are tylenol syrup with codiene. Pain has not been a problem. It's important to keep quiet and not try to do too much. I'm banded shut. The worst part of that (besides not being able to eat) is you can't brush your teeth. Also my tongue feels like it's on fire. Did anybody else get the " tongue on fire " thing? Anyway it's nice to read that so many of you are doing well in your recovery. Good luck and talk to you soon. Jay

Now, at day 10, it seems to have resorbed much (to resorb, past... ? my English isn't good this morning). At some point, I had the tongue AND the lips burning as well, both inside and outside. Plus, everything tasted the same thing, usually inorganic (ceramic, porcelain, wallpaper glue, UV resistant plastic, etc..) I was turning crazy! ....but then, a guy can't turn crazy if he's always been... (my case!) You're doing fine Jay, congratulations! Guest guest
Try swishing some warm salt water in your mouth, for that burning tongue. If it keeps on bothering, call your doc. If you have thrush developing in there (possibly thanks to the antibiotics) there are things, including liquid things, they can give you to help relieve it. Guest guest
And your English is doing fine. Didn't mean to hit you on that point when you're down... Relax. Burning tongue: Also try dilute, non alcohol mouthwash... Maybe Cepacol, maybe even hydrogen peroxide. neither is a cure, but there are things available, if it is thrush. The burning thing, particularly if it's stabby, may be nerves coming back. Or some sort of infection or fungus... Call your doc. They can't help if they don't know what's going on! I use it several times a day, after meal and sometimes in between. The fungus thing : I notice a white layer on my tongue which I was partially able to remove untill she banded my jaw more thight. So now, I can't fit my toothbrush (or even a Qtips) in there... Ray
Guest guest
White stuff can mean thrush, also known as " candida, " Latin for white... Call the doc's office in the morning. When your resistance is low, this stuff can get nasty. If you can open your mouth, Gentian violet may help, but it's messy as can be and stains badly. There is an oral pill (expensive here) that will knock it dead, in a hurry. What I don't know is whether you can pulverise the pill or get a liquid form. > > And your English is doing fine. I will check it out though, but I don't believe I have candida. I know what it is as I had it before. You can kill it with an oral suspension, cherry flavoured :-) Ray
