Guest guest
Hello all- It's great to see all these new post-op'ers doing so well. I am 6 weeks post-op. I have no screws, so I've been on a liquid diet for the past 6 weeks. I went to my doctor on Friday and he said a " couple more weeks " banded shut. I'm getting tired of this liquid diet...has anyone else been completely banded shut for more than 8 weeks? Or am I just one of the few special patients that gets the pleasure of a liquid diet for this long? I'm off to " drink " my lunch... bye! Guest guest
Hi - I know how you feel - it's only been 4 days post-op for me but the days are long when you're wired (or in my case banded) shut. I had the lower jaw advancement (sagittal split). It's no picnic but at the same time, I know some people endure far worse. Two words: Mocha Frappachino. Make sure they blend it a long time to grind the ice up really small. I always look forward to my mid- day Frapp to carry me into the afternoon. I've been taking Ensure Plus about 5 times per day, with Gatorade/fruit juice in between. I'll throw a can of chicken broth in there somewhere and for dinner I'll pig out on a pureed can of chicken noodle. A can of Ensure Plus is about 350 calories, 16 oz Gatorade about 125, can of soup about 300, 8 oz fruit juice about 140. I'm guessing the Frapp is about 200. That means today I had about (yikes) 2795 calories. Not bad for a guy who can't even open his mouth. Supposedly you can eat thicker stuff with the large zip-n-squeeze bag but I haven't been able to figure that out. My mouth always gets clogged up and it just doesn't work out. Maybe if I stick the tube all the way back so it goes directly into my stomach I can get thick stuff down. I gave up on it, and now I only take stuff that I can get through an ordinary drinking straw. My thickness limit is Cream of Chicken. I don't know what to tell you other than hang in there and make sure you eat. When you start to feel a little crappy get some apple juice down, it works wonders, then chase it with an Ensure. Good luck and keep posting - Jay > > Hello all- > > It's great to see all these new post-op'ers doing so well. > > I am 6 weeks post-op. Guest guest
Jay Hi.. being banded means rubberbands? Hopefully on Friday Dr. Teenier will take off my wires and put really tight rubber bands to close the space from the splint....that thing drives my crazy..So im assuming all I can do after getting rubberband shut is eat through a straw? I want meat..bread...Mc s....lol..well I guess all thats going to have to wait. I know every day I am getting better!!! The last couple of days my right side hurts its like a really sharp pain it goes out through my ear...the Dr. said its normal for now..I hope I dont know if I can take it much longer..the sad part is I cant do nothing about it!! Ill ask him on Friday..it doesnt hurt now but, when it comes it comes...Take Care ELizabeth > > > Hello all- > > > It's great to see all these new post-op'ers doing so well. > > > I am 6 weeks post-op. Guest guest
Have either of you tried taking a soft boiled, or sunny side egg, and blenderizing it? I'm hoping that will be my breakfast while I'm banded. 3 eggs, maybe a glass of chocolate milk. Now, if I can just figure out how to make the toast go through a zippie... Guest guest
Well if you can figure out how to eat a Big Mac with your teeth banded shut you could probably make a million bucks just from the people on this message board! Yes I have rubber bands. They're all around my teeth, in front, on the sides...even if I could open my mouth I couldn't get anything in there with all the bands in the way. Maybe if you're getting your wires off, you'll get bands and they'll let you take them off to eat...! How great would that be, at least you could eat spaghetti, or CHEESE ENCHILADAS WITH RICE AND BEANS. I need to calm down. Today I'm supposed to visit my OS for the first time since the surgery. Maybe he will relax my bands or reduce the number of them so I can get a spoon in there. I can always hope, right? As far as the pain goes, I'm no expert but I think maybe we get muscle cramping and stuff that can be really painful but not serious. There's a lot of mental stress and tension associated with the frustration of having your jaws immobilized. It would give anybody a headache. So when you get your pain, there's nothing you can take like Tylenol or even Vicodin that will help? Talk to you later, Jay > > > > Hello all- > > > > It's great to see all these new post-op'ers doing so well. > > > > I am 6 weeks post-op. Guest guest
Believe it or not, people have blended big macs. Also pizza. Also refried beans and cheese. Always thinned, of course, but it has been done... Cammie > > > > > Hello all- > > > > > It's great to see all these new post-op'ers doing so > well. > > > > > I am 6 weeks post-op.
