No deity here... But try soy or rice milk, or even coconut milk maybe

(I dunno about this last one, except that it has high saturated fat,

so may not work for you)... You don't have to have bananas, if other

fruits or foods work for you. It may be that you can whomp up

something nutritious with consomme, V-8 juice and ice cubes. (You can

even use ice cubes in a blender to thicken the juices, and freeze the

slushy stuff. Not as nutritious, but hey -- you gotta do what you

can.) You certainly can use chicken rice soup, if you can blend it

fine enough to get it through whatever gear they plant in your mouth.

Better idea yet -- ask your surgeon to prescribe a pre-surgery

appointment with the hospital's nutritionists, since you have

special troubles. My post-op consults with the dietitians were

covered by insurance, but not very enlightening, alas.

Good wishes to you,

Cammie

advancement. I will be banded closed I don't know for how long. I'd

love to have the smoothies, milkshakes, etc. But the problem is I'm

extremely lactose intolerant(even the lactose free stuff bothers me

becauseof the fat in it) and also allergic to bananas. I know....I'm

a freak! So... gods and goddesses of oral surgery.. I ask for your

infinite wisdom to aid in my quest for food and recipes. Happy

healing to all. Mitzi

Careful with the coconut milk - has a laxative effect on many people.

You could drink coconut water. Strangely it tastes a little like tea

and even a little like wood--but not in a bad way. Coconut water is

not very milk-like and it has less nutritional value.

This might sound dumb, but there might be a baby formula out thats

safe for you. Might work for a few meals for you, or for blending

other things in. And you know that stuff has got to be nutritious.

Besides soy and rice milk is almond milk, found in boxes in the

health food section at the grocery store (not in the fridge part).

Tofu and peanut butter can thicken a smoothie, and both have

protein. I used farina to thicken non-sweet stuff, and also to thin

it - I mixed thicker things into really thin farina sometimes.

Blended taco thinned with watery farina went down very well.

Powders can thicken smoothies a little. I use cocoa or carob

powder, powdered vitamins, and psyllium (fiber). I'm still in

search of a malt powder that doesn't contain milk.
