Guest guest
I just can't believe it. It happened again. I suppose I got settled in, content and somewhat happy. Shame on me. It must be me. It's gotta be me. What the hell is wrong with me that I can't keep a job? Today my boss called me in, told me my probation was up today and he was letting me go. " It just wasn't a match. " " You just don't embrace the Pulte way of life. " What the hell does that mean? I don't know what to do. I don't know what to say. I don't know. I just don't know. Guest guest
The thing about probation is that they don't really have to give you a reason. I have been trying to get a job for a year, they just tell me they found a better fit. If it weren't for the fact of the possible lawsuits if they tell the truth, we would be able to find out why. But the lawyers advise against being specific, so we will never know. With me, I am pretty sure it is my age. Is there a cooworker brave enough to tell you what went wrong. I knew an accountant a long time ago who could get a job with the major accounting firms because his name was Rocky. If they said this to him today, he would be able to sue them. So descrimination didn't go away, it just went underground. Fay Bayuk
Guest guest
Sue, are you kidding? OMG! I would go back and ASK ... Just what did he mean. Do it nicely....tell him you want to avoid the same problem the next time. Debbie in Gig Harbor ladybostons@... www.paws2print.com
Guest guest
I asked what I did or didn't do. I just got a great evaluation a month ago! He had no answers. I asked for a month to improve....to fix whatever was wrong. He kept saying it wasn't a good match. I think he meant personally that it wasn't a match. I asked about unemployment.....was I fired or laid off. He said I didn't make my probation. So what? What does that mean?? RE: It happened again.... Sue, are you kidding? OMG! What does that mean?? ******************************* Sue, I'm so sorry you have to go through this, but my take on your boss' response is that it really has nothing to do with you or your work. To me, it sounds like they don't want to pay another full-timer for health insurance or unemployment. Unfortunately, we're seeing this all too often now. The part-timers market is the preferred way, so that employers don't have to pay for the extras. If the company is not doing the standard lay-off thing to up the bottom line, I'll betcha that they'll be hiring only part-timers for that very same reason...minimum wage, or close to it, and no benefits. IOW, it's not about you, it's about money. May you and everyone else have a healthy, happy and successful (in every way) New Year! Sue, alot of times supervisors won't say too much because of repercussions with unemployment or legal issues. If you had a friend there, contact them and ask them if they have any insight. Tell them off the record. Sometimes one person won't like you and this person will have alot more pull then you know. It may be you, it may not be. There could be alot of other reasons too! Like cutting back and you're the first one to go, a relative or friend needing a job. Whatever the reason at least try to get insight from your friends there. If it is something you can change that really needs changing you will know for the future. If not, let it go. Remember to be thankful you didn't waste a whole lot' of time there and then you would even be more hurt. Good will come your way, God Bless Debbie in St. Louis
Guest guest
Sue, I am so sorry you lost your job. I certainly do understand. I had a period of about 3 years where I was having trouble keeping a job. Does lousy things for the self-esteem. My thoughts are with you. Lori Owen - Denton, Texas CHF 4/14/01 479 lbs. You would be miserable. And I think some of the reasoning on the list is right on. With the economy being like it is....companies are using up temps (even though you didn't hire on as a temp) and spitting them out so they don't have to pay for benefits and stuff. It really sucks....and would be GREAT if you could prove it, but that would be VERY difficult. A new year is just around the corner......(peaking over my shoulder as we " speak " ... At least here in the pacific northwest) and you just don't know what this might have freed you up to do.......that will be 100 times BETTER!
