Guest guest
hey all... just got back from the ortho. i'll be three months post- op (from upper and lower)this wednesday, the 16th. my upper gums are still a little numb but getting better. i can open my mouth pretty wide, but still not as wide as before. but for the most part, i hardly ever think about the fact that i had this surgery. its so weird b/c it was something that i dwelled on for about a year and a half beforehand and now i sometimes forget that it happened. yes, i even forget about that dreadful six weeks being wired shut. its funny how the human brain works! its like a built in protection system. if i truly remember how frustrated i was that whole time, i'd still be going crazy. but as it is, i feel pretty good. i was eating a hamburger the other day and realized about halfway through that i wasn't thinking about it! i wasn't thinking about how wide i could open or how difficult the chewing was... because it felt pretty normal. that was a good feeling. anyway, the ortho has a small gap in my teeth that he's trying to close off. i go back in four weeks and i'm hoping he'll tell me then that i'm ready to have these come off. if not, i still don't think it'll be much longer. man, i'll be doing backflips when my braces come off! to those of you who haven't yet had surgery or are still recovering... i wish you all the best. this is a tough thing to go through, but you WILL get through it. take care, heather
