Guest guest
I have a pretty bad overbite, receding chin and had a splint (to help with TMJ) for appr 10 months. I had been told my multiple people that they can really see a difference in my profile and also straight on. One guy in particular told me " you're chin has really filled out a lot " . Looking back at pics and even in the mirror now, I can really see a difference that splint made I guess part of the reason is the way the splint works. My discs were completely displaced. The splint " adjusts " your jaw (for lack of a better way to explain it) and allows scar tissue to build up where the discs were (in some cases I was told it helps the disc move back to position - just not in mine)... which in turn 'moves' your lower jaw/chin back toward a more normal position > Has anyone had or know of a receding chin (overbite) being moved > forward(improved facial profile) with a splint in the same way that > jaw surgery would do? It would be great to hear stories! > > Thanks!!
Guest guest
Do you mean a " splint, " rather than a surgical split (a bsso is a bilateral saggital split osteotomy)? I've heard of treatment for tmj trouble with splints. I've heard of a device called a Herbst appliance that forces the lower jaw forward. But I don't know that I've heard of a splint actually moving the jaw. I think I've also heard, in times past but not in the last year or two, of a gadget that's a real mouthful that forces the bite into the proper relationship, but I cannot for the life of me remember the name of it. Guest guest
Well that's great! I'm all for accomplishing whatever can be accomplished without resorting to surgery...
