stitches to disolve? I had them years ago for my wisdom teeth but

don't remember. They're not bothering me, but I was just curious!

My surgeon said that mine would start falling out at a week. I only noticed a

few gone at two weeks, and at three weeks they just seemed to start deteriorated

and was gone in no time!

I lost one 7 days after the surgery, but since then, the 71 others are still

there.

(Ok... there aren't 71 more, but it sure feels this way!)

Mine took weeks and weeks (I think 7) to fall completely out.

Someone's suggestion of salt water rinses helped - they lengthened

the stitches enough to the point that my surgeon had to actually

trim them at one visit (he called it " gardening " ).

I almost tried to pull one long one out with tweezers, I thought it

was food or something that was caught, and owwww!!! I found out it

was attached to me, so I let go pretty quick.

There was no way I was going in myself with scizzors to trim them

either.

Try the salt water rinses, that may help.

thanks for the replies everyone! It does seem like there are a million

stitches in there doesn't it? lol...thanks for the advice! I will

definitely try rinsing. And will stay clear of the tweezers ;)

I also have had to trim my stiches because some came unknotted and

unravelled without falling out. By 5 weeks, most had come out but

there are still a few that just dont want to leave.

I dont actually know if mine are the dissolving kind or not. They

dont seem to dissolve, they almost seem to get pushed out of my gums

in little lacy, curly loops. They're off-white, like really thin

floss or thick thread and they get very hard and stiff when dry.

Hi Kim,

Don't do what I did and pull on them with tweezers! Owww! I thought

it was a bit of food stuck in my braces and I soon found out it was

not!

My stitches didn't fall out (or dissolve) until about week 7. At one

of my visits to the surgeon (after the stitch-pulling incident at

home), I mentioned it to him, and he said " I need to do some

gardening in there " . He snipped the long ends off for me.

Rinsing with salt water helps to loosen them (they will lengthen,

unfortunately) and they should come out on their own. Do NOT try to

cut them with scizzors, you don't have the same control or view into

your mouth, and you might cut something that you can't feel right now.

If yours do stay in as long as mine did, just keep up your rigorous

cleaning routine.

I think I swallowed every last one of my stitches : )

Hope that helps,

Mine are the dissolvable kind, but not the kind that dissolve fast.

My OS said I'll probably still have them at week 3 even. Mine are

kinda pulling a bit too, and feeling kinda tingly on the left side --

I think I was numb there and didn't realise it. I think it's all

normal though, I remember a lot more pulling and pain from the

stitches they used on my wisdom tooth extrations.

My OS is having me put peroxide on them with a q-tip every time I

brush my teeth. Probably a preventative measure, they're not infected

and he says I'm doing a good job of keeping them clean. Might help if

you're worried about them getting infected. :)

Hi Kim, I'm 3 weeks and have been having the same problems with the

tightness on the front stitches. I asked my Os about this on my

second visit and he told me these are the most agravating stitches

of all. Mine are the disolving kind and i still have most of them. I

also am the same way about my mouth being clean. My Os gave me a

perscripion mouth wash to help with the stitch cleaning.

Hope all gets better.
