Yes, you're so right, Sue. My son, who at age 20 is 6'1 " , weighed about 290 at this time last year. A combination of eating out of habit and making bad choices...I didn't want to bug him about his weight as I had been bugged by my parents (and a fat lot of good that did me! -- pun intended), but I finally sat down with him and said that I was worried about his health. Turned out that he was worried too, and self-conscious, though he is not the kind of guy who would ever let anyone see that. Anyway, he joined Weight Watchers, used their points system, and has lost 60 lbs. He is still not at his " ideal weight " , but he looks *gorgeous* -- even lost his scraggly pony-tail a couple of weeks ago, and now is (and I swear I am not saying this because I am his mother) totally jumpable. Doesn't hurt that he's revamped his wardrobe, and his adolescent skin cleared up a couple of years ago... The way he did this is that he started going to Subway for his lunches at work every day (hello, !), being careful about his choices, and not eating junk out of habit or laziness. At home, he snacks on pita sandwiches stuffed with lettuce, a bit of non-fat cheese, and some turkey breast, or a piece of fruit, or both. He is at that lucky age where men have highly-tuned metabolisms, and I'm so glad he's been able to make use of that to help himself. He doesn't obsess about his " points " , in fact he very rarely even counts them up, but he is aware of what he's putting into his mouth, and cuts back one day if he thinks he's gone overboard the day before. I'm really hopeful that despite having inherited our family's obesity genes, he's going to be able to keep it off.
