Joanne,

I just wrote that I felt the ER doctors had written off legitimate concerns of

my daughters as hysteria which was not acceptable medical practice. I then

pointed out that less than ten days after my wife was discharged as

" dehydration "

without even checking for a UTI, she was back in the hospital with a full blown

septis infection which takes at least days to turn into from a UTI.

I also worded it as trying to improve ER case management rather than a threat

of a lawsuit. ALL hospitals have some sort of quality control person (or dept).

If you want them to get the complaint - don't threaten as then the letter goes

to the legal department (which has a cover our a..) mentality. The quality of

care dept is usually an experienced nurse at least and will work on the problem.

Of course if the first letter does not work, then change hospitals. We do not

need lawyers or accountants running hospitals, they should only advise the

people running the hospital. The best hospitals are run by teams with nurses,

doctors and even support people having a say along with accountants and lawyers.

But remember that I was involved in team management and team building :o) In

those days it was called TQM but it is basically common sense.

Take care, Bill Werre
