Guest guest
I am going through an awful time right now. I had my upper jaw reset and my lower midline jaw shortened. The upper jaw was to correct an open bite. The shortening of my lower midline was for purely cosmetic reasons. My jaw isn't wired shut. I only wear elastics at night time. It's day 3 post op right now and they say this is the worst day. Fuck, it better not get any worse than this. If I at least start to see signs of improvement it would do tremendous things for my phychology. Right now my face is the size of a pumpkin. I can feel my heart beat in my cheeks and I can feel about a thousand twitches all over my face at any given point in time. It's not so much pain, but rather discomfort. I really can't enjoy anything. It's like constant torment. I've slept maybe 4 cummulative hours in the last 3 days. I feel like I'm going stir crazy. I've just got to get over this hump right now and I'll be sooooo much happier. When did it start to get better for you guys????? Guest guest
Hi Marco, Sorry you're having a bad go of it. With regard to sleeping, I am still sleeping elevated and I am 2 wks post surgery. Sleeping in a recliner was pretty easy for me. Fortunately, my swelling is drastically down. Days three to five were the worse for me swelling and numbness wise. At the risk of repeating others, it does get better . . . I kept telling myself that it will be a little better tomorrow and it was. Take care and best wishes for a speedy recovery. With regards, Dale
Guest guest
I promise you will get better!!!!!! I had reconstruction of my lower jaw both sides, shaved my right side as well as my chin..screws...and a plastic splint..........wired shut...I had a bad reaction to the medication I was 3 days in SICU..Special Intensive Care Unit...3 days I told my mom when am I going to get better??? I would look in the mirror and get scared my lip was so big as well as my face! You have to stop and realize its only been 3 days you face went through a lot !! Give it time yesterday was 2 weeks for me and 90% of my swelling is GONE!!! My face looks great..The only part that sucks is being wired shut..Tomm I see my Doctor maybe the wires will come off and Ill get rubber bands and atleast be able to eat through a straw....yummy...cant wait. When he saw me at a week he could not believe how much my sweling went down. I were my jaw bra very faitfully every day every night!!that helps a lot.... I had a reaction to the morphine. Once I got home, on day #4, things improved 10 fold. Swelling is now more than 80% gone, at days #15. Hang in there, Marco, things will get better, that's a certainty! Have you looked at my pictures? This could help to see the swelling how it went away... http://www.pbase.com/carbone/surgery Ray
Guest guest
I don't know. I've got to see my OS in a week. Till then I'm on a liquid diet. The swelling is really my #1 concern right now. After that my 2nd concern is when I can start lifting weights and playing sports again. > how long will you have to be on a liquid diet? my doc told me i could eat > again in 6 weeks how about you? > >
Guest guest
Yes Ray, I took a look at your pictures. You really did well with the swelling. I hope I can do half as good as you! Right now things are rough but I'm trying to keep a positive attitude. I'm starting to cope a little better today then yesterday. No real improvements yet, just learning to cope. Thanks buddy
Guest guest
You gotta hang in there Marco it does suck for a few days. Some people swell more than others but most people say the swelling goes away pretty fast (after the 3rd day, when swelling is the worst). You're another one of those people who didn't get wired. Man that was the worst part for me, being banded shut for 6 days. And I'm a total wimp, some of these folks on here are wired shut for weeks! I have had trouble sleeping however. I still haven't figured that one out yet. Some nights I do ok and others are difficult. Napping during the day helps I think. Hang in there bud Jay > I am going through an awful time right now. Guest guest
do you sleep on your back? or do you sleep in a seated position? the doctor told me to stay seated while I was in the hospital. But it's virtually impossible for me to fall asleep in that position now. I hope I'm not making the swelling worse by sleeping on my back but I feel like I've got no choice. Guest guest
I've been sleeping on my back, which isn't my preferred sleeping position. Usualy I sleep on my side which I haven't been doing since the surgery. It's just hard to get comforatble enough to sleep, I'm not used to having little nagging low-grade headaches not to mention waking up every few hours hungry. My OS told me to take some Ny Quil or Benadryl but I haven't tried those yet. I'm more of a Budweiser guy but we'll see. I'm getting a little better each day. Guest guest
I promise you it will get better. Get yourself through the first week, bit by bit, and suddenly -- maybe tomorrow, maybe the day after, maybe the day after that -- I'll bet you'll suddenly realize, " gee. That's a little better. " (Or, if you're lucky, " Gee! That's so much better! " We're thinking of you. Do whatever you can find that you might enjoy - - whether it's a book, a movie, music, crossword puzzles, a soaky bath (some folks find that steam helps them get through the swelling, too) -- whatever. Best, Cammie > I am going through an awful time right now. I had my upper jaw reset > and my lower midline jaw shortened. The upper jaw was to correct an > open bite.
