For me (a male, age 62) the hign end of the normal range was 72. I

was running 77 and then 87 several months after my DS. I do not know

if it was coincidence or just a to-be-expected settling down, but my

PTH went down to 25 about six weeks after I switched from my own

mixture of store-bought calcium citrate (over 200 mg/day) and

Twinlabs Vitamin D (about 1200 mg/day, as I recall) to Vita4Life (12

tablets/day).

May I recommend a DEXAscan (Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry) for all

post-ops (pre-op would be even better) if only to serve as a baseline

in case future bone demineralization were to be suspected? It is a

non-invasive, painless test that costs about $250. Mine showe that

my hips and wrist were OK, but that I was mildly osteopenic

(pre-osteoporotic) in my lumbar region. I have begun a lot of

walking to add weight-bearing exercise to my spine in hopes of

re-building bone mass there.

Best,

Steve
