Guest guest
I was diagnosed by my dentist that I had an overbite, need upper jaw lift backward and lower jaw advancement. Then he refered me to the maxillofacial doctor in town. He told me that the operation will give me only 10% improvement and that he did not think it is worst my pain and money (he told me I need two time surgery--one for the upper and another one for the lower, which cause more than $10,000). But i feel he did not want to do because I am not American and that he is not familiar with Asian's facial profile, so he did not reccommend doing surgery. But I think I need to do to gain my self confidence and to get a better appearance. any suggestion for nice and expertise jaw surgeon in IL or any where else such as california and vegas? Please help, thanks
Guest guest
Have you seen an orthodontist? That should be your first step after your dentist recommends you do something about your bite. Find a good orthodontist who has experience treating cases like yours. If you can find a good orthodontist, he'll know of good surgeons if necessary. Guest guest
Dear jayhb2004, Thanks for you reply--yes I have seen the orthodontist. My overbite was diagnosed by my orthodontist and the maxillofacial surgeon's office was referered by my orthodontist. I am thinking about seeing other surgeon in the same clinic to get second opinion. My othodontist said that it depends on me whether to do or not to do. I just get stuck with the word " 10% improvement " cannot make decision till now. Guest guest
Ok good - well it sounds like your orthodontist and surgeon don't agree, so you are definitely doing the right thing by seeking more opinions. You may also want to consider talking to another orthodontist unless you have complete confidence in this one. In my case, my orthodontist and surgeon both told me if I didn't have the surgery, my teeth would not remain straight and my deep bite would return. Therefore I decided to go ahead with the surgery. If there had been some way to treat the malocclusion without surgery I would have done that instead. Guest guest
Hi! My OS's name is Lawrence Zager. He is located downtown (Chicago) in the Loop. He is a little matter-of-fact when dealing with patients, but I find that he does GREAT work. He has done 6 tooth extractions for me and I have recovered much faster then any of the people I know who have had fewer done. Also, his assisting surgeon compensates for his bedside manner by answering all questions completely, and is VERY friendly (I have a cute story about impressions but I'll save it) Oh, and the assisting surgeon is a hottie too ....not that that should matter. > > > > I was diagnosed by my dentist that I had an overbite, need > upper > > > jaw > > > > lift backward and lower jaw advancement. Guest guest
Dear Jay and TwoOnSunday, Thanks for the name of OS in Chicago, I will try him for the second opinion. I live in Springfiled, IL, which means three hours driving to chicago. But anything that would improve my self-confidence is worth doing.., I guess. So, if I got the same opinion, I might considering doing in here, although the surgeon is not too nice and the assistent is a little bit unfriendly. Thanks again for you guys' support and persepctive > > > > > I was diagnosed by my dentist that I had an overbite, need > > upper > > > > jaw > > > > > lift backward and lower jaw advancement.
