Hi Folks,

On Monday, Jeff and I met with our attorney to draw up his will and

physician's directives. One question that came up was the issue of whether

Jeff wanted to donate his body for research. We have discussed this at

some length, and he wants to find out after he dies whether he does indeed

have MSA. He also wants to donate any other organs or body parts necessary

for neurological research.

Where do we start? Does Jeff need to contact certain organizations, get on

a list? Any information would be appreciated.

Also, we're not there yet, but permanently disability is looming, maybe

within a year or two, although with the meds and research, who knows. We

just want to be prepared. What will Social Security need to establish

permanent disability?

Regards,

Hi ,

When my father died, we donated his brain and spinal

cord tissue to Mayo for MSA research. We had not made

prior arrangements and were very lucky that a family

friend who happens to be a Dr. was able to quickly

make the arrangements for us. There is a very small

window of time after death in which the tissue can be

harvested. I would strongly suggest that you make

arrangements now for that. In the past Pam Bower has

posted contacts at Mayo and Vanderbilt who can help

with the arrangements.

I don't know about arrangements for other organs.
