Running after five days? Trust me, I'm a little over 2 weeks post op and I'm

sure other surgery vets will agree with me . . . not only will you not be

able to exercise after five days . . . you won't want to . . . let alone have

the

energy to! People usually aren't cleared to resume exercising until after 6

to 8 weeks post surgery, if then. I'm sure or Cammie could do a better

job fielding this question. Take care a best wishes to you!

With regards,

Dale

Dale, thanks for the vote of confidence, but I can't do any better

than you did.

My surgeon vetoed even swimming at 6 to 8 weeks, as " too strenuous. "

I have known of some folks who got back to the gym earlier than that,

some of 'em against their docs' advice. I wouldn't want to risk it.

Ask your doc, though. You sound as though you're a lot younger than I

am. At the point at which I had surgery, I'd been doing an hour a day

of walking and an hour a day of aerobics, plus light weights three or

four times a week. I am ashamed to say that all went by the boards

once I got out of the habit -- plus some other major life adventures

intervened.

I don't think you'll need five months off, but I'd expect your doc to

advise two, maybe more, depending on what you had done.

Also, be very, very careful about anything that might make you clench

your teeth (I am thinking weights, here). Or contact sports. Walking,

though, is fine, as soon as you're getting in enough calories to

support the healing and cover the exercise. Matter of fact, the

paradox is that you need to keep moving some post op to prevent glood

clots!

Best,

Cammie
