Guest guest
Hello all! Yesterday was my second visit with my surgeon. All went extremely well : - She removed all the stiches (the wires.. ??). I guess she was even more impatient than me! I could have waited a few more weeks, I wouldn't have mind. - I'm down to two rubber bands (instead of four). - She removed something in my scar (hip) but also warned me against the Sun for the next six months. Living in Montreal, Canada, that means... see you next Summer ;-) - I had a sharp pain in the lower abdomen... well, it's nothing related to the surgery. It's most probably an hernia. I will see my generalist this morning. - She said, as my ortho and other specialists, that I'm healing faster than usual. I'm a good 1 week ahead of schedule. I was pleased to hear that! - It's ok for me to eat soft food. - Remove the rubber bands, three times a day, one hour per session. - Exercise, several times a day, my facial muscle (making all sorts of strange expression!) - I can start to brush my teeth, lightly, with a touch of toothpaste. - Skip the Peridex (special mouth rinse). - See me in two weeks That was very good news... Until I tried to eat. That's when I hit my first wall. I was hoping I could simply eat pastas and sauce. But there's a problem.. My tongue is numb everywhere but at the tip. I can't feel my teeth, all 31 of them. I can't feel my palate. And the interior of my right cheek is still numb. And since only the right teeth are properly aligned for me to eat... it's pretty much impossible to eat under these conditions. I was feeling bad and discouraged a great deal when I realized I had eaten like 9 noodles and couldn't continue because I didn't feel where they were in my mouth. So, this morning, I'm back on Ensure! Joy oh joy! :-) I'm trying to think this is only temporary, and that my numbness will go away pretty soon so that I can start eating normally. Guest guest
Hello Ray, Glad to hear that you are healing so well. Sorry about the eating problems. You did answer your question so to speak--give it a little more time for the numbness to subside. Instead of the whole liquid Ensure thing, you might try soft, mashed foods such as mashed potatoes, oatmeal, yogurt, refried beans with sour cream and salsa. These foods will tend to stay together and not get lost in your mouth like the noodles did. Good Luck, keep us updated. a > Hello all! > > Yesterday was my second visit with my surgeon. This morning, I was able to get an egg in. That's not much, but it was a little easier (barely easier, but still, a little!) Ray
Guest guest
Ray, That is great news. Congrats. You should try eating very very soft foods, like mashed patatoes and the like. Just stick it in the back of your mouth and swallow. Don't worry about chewing the food yet. It will probably take you quite a while to put down the food, but believe me, it is worth it. Your body will thank you. Also, after a few days of doing this type of eating, you'll get used to it, and be able to eat much more quickly. -AJ > Hello all! > > Yesterday was my second visit with my surgeon. That's music to my ears, I mean hearing I'm not alone with difficult chewing. And I think I'll eat totally junk food tonight... Potatoes... WITH TWO HUNDRED SIXTY SEVEN TONS OF GRAVY. (sounds disgusting, but my 10 lbs lighter body said if I don't do it, it'll go on strike!) Ray
