Guest guest
Thank GOODNESS, the insurance FINALLY pre-approved my surgery (the day after I was supposed to have it, of course). So now my surgery is Tuesday, June 22nd. And it had better actually end up being that day or I'm going to be mad. lol. I've decided that insurance companies are officially stupid. Oh and I had a question too- any suggestions for what type of food to buy in preparation for the surgery? I'm having my lower jaw moved back, and my bottom wisdom teeth taken out, and my jaws will be probably be wired shut for about a week. Yuck. Oh and about how long do you all think it'll be before my face looks completely normal again? lol

Pick your favourite flavour, but just don't buy too many cans in advance. Some people (including myself) have reported that stuff had an odd taste after the surgery (I went through iron, plastic, porcelain before it tasted just awfull, which is what can food taste, normallly... hahaha!). Seriously, chocolate and vanilla are usually more tolerated. Ray

Guest guest
, CONGRATULATIONS! Now we're really surgerie buddies! Mine starts at 7:45 MDT. What about your's? In terms of what to buy in prepartion, I've uploaded the liquid diet that my OS gave me yesterday. It might also give those of you who are looking for variety in weeks 3-6 some more ideas of things to try. There's some interesting recipes in there. Look under the files section for Liquid Diet. Guest guest
I recommend Ensure Plus (chocolate) and fruit juice (your choice). You can also get some clear soups like chicken broth. You'll probably need at least 4 Ensure per day and something like 24 oz of fruit juice per day. Also, Gatorade is good but just have plenty of water on hand. You need calories and protein; Ensure will give you that, the clear chicken broth will not. Chicken broth is good when you get tired of the sweet stuff and want something a little salty. You're looking for liquids that have a lot of calories. People on here talk about smoothies etc. I never really was a smoothie guy but I did start blending a tablespoon of peanut butter in my chocolate Ensure to add about 90 calories. I wasn't on the liquid diet long enough to start getting really fancy with the blender. And don't forget, Mocha Frappuchino from Starbuck's is excellent for a mid-day snack and pick-me-up. Tell them to blend it very well. Jay > Thank GOODNESS, the insurance FINALLY pre-approved my surgery (the > day after I was supposed to have it, of course). So now my surgery is > Tuesday, June 22nd. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I really appreciate it! Oh, and " Dammit " (what a screen name), my surgery is at 8:00AM EST if I remember correctly, which puts it at about 2 hours before yours. Oh and I couldn't help but notice that no one answered my question about how long it might be after the surgery before my face looks normal again. LOL Simply because this varies greatly from one person to another. My own face is 80% back to normal, after 16 days. However, my surgeon told me some of her patients have had less luck than me an have had swelling for several weeks longer than me. Usually, the major swelling (the one visible on the outside) goes away within the first 4 weeks. Talk to your surgeon about it, he or she will tell you the specifics. Guest guest
Actually, Jay, they now bottle that Starbucks Mocha Frappucino, and it's also been a hit in my house. I get it at the grocery and convenience stores (cheaper, of course, at the grocery).
