Guest guest
Hi Marcia, Great news! It's one day at a time now! Try apple juice as one the liquids he takes in. I drank lots of it, along with water. He'll be fine because he's got two of the best medicines . . . love and support! Kudos for all that YOU have done pre and post op for your son! Take care and best wishes for a speedy recovery! With regards, Dale
Guest guest
Well, nope. We're none of us, except those who go through the schooling and licensing, experts. But sometimes we remember solutions we've found the hard way. I don't think I'd have the heart to wake up a son who'd been through what you've described. But I do agree that fluid intake, and caloric intake, for that matter, are crucial in the healing process -- as well as in getting rid of the swelling. Keep after him! Isn't that what mamas are for??? I do know that when folks have post-op problems of all sorts, fruit juices and fruits (pureed if need be) may be the most palatable stuff. Add whatever you can get away with, especially proteins, but mainly, get it into him! Best, Cammie > thanks jay, > he had orange juice and feels a little better. He slept so long this morning. I didn't want to WAKE him to give him fluids, but he possibly went too long without something. This is why support groups are so helpful...by the time you live thru it you are an expert at it! thanks for the reply. > > Marcia > >
Guest guest
> HI all..! > > My 18 year old son had surgery Thursday. He had only upper moved forward -- this was a nice surprise since we were told the OS would decide during surgery whether to do the lower jaw too. SO he had that, wisdom teeth removed and a genioplasty to balance his face. He stayed in the hospital Thursday night, and in spite of the drugs, etc. to inhibit his nausea, he threw up continually. This wasn't as bad as it could have been if he were wired. He isn't, so that was a blessing. Everyone told us it was from swallowing so much blood during surgery -- that it had to come up and wasn't unusual at all... Now he is home and doing pretty well...not as much swelling as we expected and he feels ok -- when asked on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being really good...he said he was a 7! I wish I were a 7..i think i am a 4.5 right about now!!!! The only thing is, just now he said he was dizzy when he closed his eyes...is this low blood sugar, not enough fluids, what do you think? He's been > drinking ok, but slept so long this morning, that maybe he went too long without something... > > To those of you about to go into surgery, this wasn't as bad as we expected, at all...we're early in the recovery process, but so far so good. So try to relax and focus on the ultimate outcome..I can already see how this could be life-changing for him! Good wishes to everyone! > > Marcia Marcia, Dizzyness can have many roots. In my case, it was the anesthesia stuff that caused it. And I had it severe. When I closed my eyes under the shower to wash my hair, I felt, once. Luckilly, I didn't hit my face. It was agreed then I would need help to wash. Not the most funny thing to go through, but with all the pain I had, I surely didn't want to hit my jaws and risk another surgery! By day #12, the dizzyness was gone. I can now close my eyes without feeling the world spining around me, and washing my hairs under the shower is no longer a hazardous activity ;-) Fresh air helped a lot. As soon as I could, I stepped outside, in the stairs, simply to breath fresh air. Eating better will also improve things a lot. Ray
