Hi ,

Fortunately, Jeff is still able to communicate. But here's something we did

when my grandfather had a stroke.

Buy a magnetic board-most office supply places or teacher supply places

have them in various sizes. you really only need one that she can hold in

her lap. Then get some magnetic sheets. One side is sticky. From there,

you can make words on your computer in large print like HUNGRY, TIRED,

SORE, BATHROOM, MEDICINE, etc, or you can even do it with pictures. The

great-grandkids had a ball going through magazines and cutting out

pictures, sticking them to the magnetic backing and making magnetic cutouts

for great grandad. He was able to communicate with his magnets, and kept

them in a little box near his chair.

Regards,

M

Question about what to do now???

Hi Everybody!! I'm hoping someone can give us some ideas to help my mother.

She is at a stage right now, where we can no longer hear her anymore. My

sister is her major caregiver and she is getting frustrated and doesn't

know

what to do. My mom is now trying to write things down, but even that

doesn't

always work well either. If any of you have ideas to help us communicate

better with her, we would appreciate it very much. Thanks, Darras

two things help me:

one I chew on paper towels. I know this is really gross, but I believe the

chewing helps me

two, right afte I eat I chew a piece of SF gum. This helps my " oral

fixation " and also helps me to weait before having any water.

I would put something in my mouth, chew it up and spit it out. I know it's

kind of gross, but it really did help me with head hunger.
