Although the esophagus in not normally involved with RP it can be. Since the esophagus is connected in the beginning phase to the trachea, prior to it splitting off. Things like laryngitis, pharngitis, thyroid enlargement and tracheal inflammation can cause pressure on the esophagus. Which can cause swallowing problems. Rp can also affect the LES valve in your stomach, which can cause the stomach acids to follow back up the esophagus causing mild to severe burns, restriction and pain. Some acid reflux is not detectable to people. Here lays another problem, if this is happening, then you may have developed a "backward aneurysm" that fills with gas pressure, I have this and it is not fun. But it makes swallowing very difficult. It can also compromise your breathing. Leveling you with a choking sensation. The other thing that could be happening it that your cranial nerve 8 is inflamed or pinched, since this nerve is directly involved with the swallowing mechanism and directly involved with RP it should not be over looked.
