Dawn, HI! I think that you should probably listen to your doctors on this one. They normally don't tend to suggest not working. The stress that you are under is mounting and this will only exasperate your RP.

Going on disability dose not mean that you have to stay on it. There is two types. One is a short term which is covered by your SDI insurance. I believe that the COBRA insurance act would cover your medical. Each state has a different set of criteria for this. But it would be worth checking into. Check with your human resource dept. at work and see what the medical level of absence policy is.

This worked out very nicely for me. I was out on medical leave for 5 months. During that time it became very clear that I could not maintain that job any more. The company asked me to come back into a different position, which I did. However, I was not able to continue. So I resigned.

A year later I went on full SSI

SSI is covered by the Federal Government. However each state has their own guidelines also. This type of disability must be for more then 6 month. But you can terminate it at any time.

It is a good thing to look at from all the different angles. Please remember that sometime we just need a time out, so we can heal and get better.

hi thanks so much. i am asking because, my dr. isstarting to push for me to do that. i really wouldrather work but i am undecided right now. I think alot of my problems are coming from stress with momand all. also someother stuff. dawnn
