Guest guest
Hello all. I am currently having severe problems with what feels like electrical current running through my neck and into my arms. This is causing my arms, neck and upper chest to flail about uncontrollably. The problem is terrible at night and in fact I'm up at 5:45am now because I can't sleep with this. My wife hasn't a clue as to what I should try. Does anyone have a similiar problem? My neurologist was at a loss and suggested I ask here and let him know if anyone has an idea. We've tried Baclofen, Mysolin and other muscle relaxers but to no avail. They are thinking of doing a nerve block on my left arm from the elbow down so I don't hit myself anymore. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Naro Memphis, TN
Guest guest
Have you thought of trying Neurontin? A lot of people on the list are on this for neuropathic pain. Hope this helps. Jean & Chrissie
Guest guest
I don't know about the " electric current " but Charlotte and others have had problems with jerky uncontrolable movement. That is usually dyskinesia. Are you on Sinemet? If so you may be taking too much. Amantadine did help that (dyskinesia) somewhat in Charlotte's case. Guest guest
Funny you mentioned that cause that is what we are going to try. Thank you and Bill Werre for your help. Have you thought of trying Neurontin? A lot of people on the list are on this for neuropathic pain. Hope this helps. Guest guest
, My husband has some problems with the electrical current feelings. Our neuro does not have any answers. We have helped the problem a little (we think) with a new antidepressant. My husband says that the feeling is very unpleasant. He does not have the problems of hitting himself. His limbs almost do not move. I realize that my comments probably have not helped you at all, except to say that there is at least one other person who has those sensations in his limbs, especially his arms. Guest guest
, My dad, who is 82, has said on two different occasions those exact words that he felt like an " electrical current is going through him " . When he told the doctor he just ignored the complaint and I even thought it was just that my dad is older and sometimes gets mixed up. Thanks for bringing this up. Next time he says that I will understand. Jean (Phx)
Guest guest
HI DAVID. IF IT'S ANY CONSOLATION, ADD ANOTHER TO THE LIST OF PEOPLE IN THIS GROUP WHO HAVE SIMILAR EXPERIENCES. I DO HAVE THE ELECTRICAL SENSATIONS. MY INTERNIST TOLD ME THAT THIS IS DEFINITELY NEURO. WE DISCUSSED THIS WITH ELECTRICAL IMPULSE PAINS IN MY CHEST. SHE SAID THAT THESE WERE NOT HEART RELATED - BUT NEURO. ANYWAY, I HAVE A COMBINATION OF EFFECTS WHEN THIS OCCURS. SOMETIMES MY BODY WILL JERK. SOMETIMES IT JUST SHUTS DOWN. SEEMS THE MORE I FIGHT IT, THE WORSE IT FIGHTS BACK (AND THAT IS USUALLY WHEN I GET THE WORST UNCONTROLLABLE MOVEMENTS BACK). NOWADAYS, I MOSTLY TRY TO LET IT RUN IT'S COURSE. NOT PLEASANT, BUT SEEMS TO LAST LESS. UNLIKE YOURS, MINE CAN OCCUR ANYWHERE IN MY BODY. IN FACT, I'LL HAVE WHOLE-BODY EXPERIENCES LIKE THIS. RATHER EMBARASSING WHEN IT HAPPENS IN PUBLIC, BUT AGAIN - MORE OFTEN THAN NOT NOW - I JUST DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT - BECAUSE MY BODY REALLY REBELS IF I TRY TO SUPRESS IT. REGARDING DRUGS, NO INPUT. DRUGS AND I DON'T GET ALONG. I'VE BEEN ON AMANTADINE, AND THAT SEEMED TO HAVE NO EFFECT. ON A BETA BLOCKER, AND STILL HAVING IT AS WELL - SO - FOR ME ANYWAY (AND ALL THIS IS A VERY INDIVIDUALIZED THING) NO BENEFIT FROM THOSE WITH REGARD TO THIS SYMPTOM. BE SURE TO LET ME KNOW THOUGH IF YOU FIND SOMETHING THAT WORKS. SO FAR, I'VE JUST SHRUGGED THIS OFF AS SOMETHING ELSE THAT NOTHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT. OF COURSE, YOU CAN DROP ME A LINE IF YOU JUST WANT TO CHAT ABOUT IT TOO. COMPARE NOTES OF SORT. CATCHA LATER.
