Guest guest
I am thinking -- and probably you should either ask the surgeon you're considering, or your orthodontist about this -- that such is indeed the stuff of Le Forte III, which involves a pretty high cut through the bone. I have heard much more, though, about the use of cheek implants. I believe there is something called the " flat face " syndrome, in which the middle third of the face is somewhat sunken. I did not have any of these procedures, and what I post comes from an often faulty, aging memory. Guest guest
I never was clear on which LeForte is which, but I had my maxilla brought forward somewhere around the middle of the end of my nose. I'm not sure exactly where the cut was, but on the X-ray it looks like the plates are about even with the bottom of my nose. Because my cheekbones and the area just below them was pretty far back to start with, the surgeon recommended cheek implants so that I did not have a sunken middle face. I am very happy with the cheek implants, although they take some getting used to (not having really had any before). Looking in the mirror, I think I would have looked kind of " bottom of the face " heavy if I hadn't balanced it out with the implants. --Amy > > Not just the upper teeth but the whole cheek area? > > Thanks
