Guest guest
Did you guys hear about this? My husband and I laughed so hard when we heard this story. You have to know Sydney, Nova Scotia to really get the joke. Trust me though, Sydney is not the most scenic part of Nova Scotia... it's known for toxic waste, coal mines and steel plants. Although there are lots of beautiful places to visit near Sydney, Sydney itself is usually avoided. I heard someone on the radio say this morning that instead of going " down under " they went " up over " . I still don't understand why they didn't know that something was amiss... I don't even think they fly you on a jet from Halifax to Sydney, you go on a propellor plane... how did they think that would take them all the way to Sydney??? LOL! Hugs, Pam http://www.canada.com/news/story.asp?id={C6727EB2-C1B3-4ED5-A3B3-53EFF3DFFCE C} Wrong Sydney, mate! English couple headed for Australia land in Sydney, N.S. Canadian Press Saturday, August 03, 2002 SYDNEY, N.S. (CP) - An English couple will have to settle for Celtic music and Fortress Louisbourg instead of kangaroos and koala bears after an international travel mix-up. Raeoul Sebastian and Emma Nunn, both 19, of London, England, landed at the Sydney Airport late Thursday hoping to start a relaxing, three-week vacation. The problem is, their planned destination was Sydney, Australia not Sydney, N.S. " It was quite a shock, " Sebastian said. " We thought we were somewhere for a stopover, getting on a bigger plane. " The couple purchased the tickets April 19 from a travel agent over the Internet. When they did a plane changeover in Halifax - following a six-hour flight from England - they realized they were in Canada, but thought that was the way the trip was routed. " We talked to a guy at customs. Everyone was saying Sydney so we thought things were going well, " he explained. This is the couple's first trip to Canada, although an unplanned one. Sebastian said Air Canada officials have been helpful and are trying to change their tickets so they can return to London. He said they will be tracking down the travel agent once they arrive home to find out what happened. Batten, an employee of Air Canada Jazz in Cape Breton, has been helping the pair since they landed. In the past, she said, Air Canada has received baggage in Sydney, N.S., for travellers going to Sydney, Australia but this is the first time they have received passengers destined for down under. She said a passenger on another airline headed for Sidney, B.C., also mistakenly landed at the Sydney, N.S., airport recently. © Copyright 2002 The Canadian Press

Guest guest
At least the people in Sydney are being really nice to them and I guess now everyone knows where Sydney, Nova Scotia is. Another story about them with an update on what they've been doing since they arrived. http://www.canada.com/sydney/story.asp?id={87AFF299-E5DF-4A0E-BECB-A5DCD7B51 893} Re: Wrong Sydney, mate!
